We were lucky to catch up with Nikenya McCrary recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikenya, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Anchored In Christ, INC. was born out of trials involving grief, depression, and anxiety. At one point, I felt like I was drowning. One day, while praying, I called out, “God, you’re my lifesaver,” and at that moment, God revealed an anchor in the sea. This anchor symbolizes God’s steadying presence. No matter what I go through, I know God is there, holding me in His hands. In that revelation, God birthed my purpose: to give back to the community and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Everything we do at Anchored In Christ is about serving the community. We are a corporation for the people!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When my mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, I had to pause my life to become her primary caregiver. Despite the challenges, I never gave up. I chose to speak life into both my mom and myself. I admit that it was difficult at times, but I knew that with God’s strength, I could persevere. I continued to trust in God and His word, knowing Him to be the truth, the light, and more. Even when I felt overwhelmed, I chose to trust God, believing that He would grant me peace and heal my mom. Through this experience, I learned how to worship God and press through the storm. This experience has been the most powerful testament to resilience in my life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the rigid adherence to religion and tradition. Growing up, I believed that everyone should think and act in a certain way to be accepted. However, after going through this season where my mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, I became her primary caregiver. This experience opened my eyes to the diverse ways people cope with challenges and the importance of compassion and understanding.
I realized that everyone is different, each with their own opinions and unique life situations. I had to let go of my preconceived notions and embrace the idea that everyone needs someone, regardless of their beliefs or background. This journey taught me the value of empathy and the importance of supporting others through their struggles.
