We were lucky to catch up with Nijah Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nijah, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?

Being an Esthetician and working on my own goals and dreams has been the best investment to myself. Learning to take chances in life in order to do something you love is a major risk but it’s worth it. I took a big chance on being a small business and stepping into the beauty industry on my own it’s been challenging, hard, and overwhelming. But in the end seeing my store, and clientele develop at a major level is pleasing.

Nijah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is KoKo I am an Esthetician in Cincinnati Ohio I have a small business that sells professional products and products by Skin haven for all skin types.

I’ve been working as an esthetician for almost 2 years starting my own business in my home I took a leap of faith and open my own spa leading me to opening a bigger spa in downtown Cincinnati Ohio, being one of the 1st black women to open a spa in downtown is a very rewarding experience. I created a natural and organic skin care line to rejuvenate and restore the skin, inside the Haven we cater to our clients every need and also treat our concern skin conditions, and relaxation needs. I am very proud that I started this business and built everything I own with little help or resources I still became one of the best in my craft.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One lesson I had to learn is not everyone you know friends, family , loved ones will support your business, or share your dreams in a positive light.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I funded my business with my saving account and working as a case manager at our local hospital in Cincinnati, it was very hard to give up things I loved to do in order to fund my business I spent well over $25,000 but it was so worth it every time I see my clients and their happy to come back or their telling the world about their Esty.
