Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nigol (Ozz) Belikerekian . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nigol (Ozz), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since high school, I’ve been drawn to various forms of art, whether it was painting, handcrafted arts, music, or theater. These creative outlets spoke to me on a profound level, igniting a passion that I couldn’t ignore. However, it was through an unexpected encounter with temporary tattoos in a lollipop package that I stumbled upon my true calling: tattooing.
Despite my love for the arts, I initially pursued a career in the jewelry industry, specializing in diamond setting. While I enjoyed the craftsmanship involved, my heart yearned for something more expressive and impactful. It was during this time that I had a lucky encounter with a colleague who was skilled in tattooing. Witnessing the power of a tattoo machine in action, I was captivated by the idea of creating permanent art that resonated deeply with individuals.
The journey to becoming a tattoo artist was far from easy, especially in a time when resources and guidance were scarce. With limited access to learning materials and no online tutorials to rely on, I embarked on a challenging path of self-teaching. Late nights were spent tinkering with a cheap tattoo machine, piecing together knowledge from a magazine I had ordered from the local library.
Despite the daunting obstacles ahead, I knew deep down that this was the path I was meant to pursue. The allure of translating someone’s vision into a tangible piece of art, etched forever onto their skin, was a challenge I was willing to embrace. Slowly but surely, my dedication paid off as I began tattooing friends and acquaintances, gaining recognition within my community.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Coming from a humble working-class background, I embarked on my journey into the world of tattooing with little to no financial support. Determined to pursue my passion despite the odds, I juggled multiple jobs to sustain my small tattooing business. Balancing roles as a bartender at night and a salesperson at a local gadgets and gifts shop during the day, I meticulously managed my tattooing schedule around my work commitments.
Despite the hardships, my dedication to the craft has propelled me to become recognized as one of the top tattoo artists in the region. Central to my success is the deep, yet approachable rapport I cultivate with my clients. I approach tattooing with a blend of professionalism and warmth, striving to not only deliver exceptional artwork but also to educate my clients throughout the entire process.
Each tattooing journey begins with a thorough consultation, where I attentively listen to my clients’ ideas and preferences. From there, I guide them through the intricacies of the design process, ensuring that every aspect aligns with their vision. Transparency is key, and I make it a point to demystify the tattooing process, addressing any concerns or questions along the way.
One of my proudest achievements is persevering through the inevitable challenges and doubts that accompany the artist’s journey. It’s during these moments of adversity that I’ve found the strength to push forward and reaffirm my commitment to my craft.
Above all, I emphasize the deeply personal nature of tattoos. I urge clients to approach the experience with thoughtfulness and intentionality, encouraging open communication and collaboration throughout the creative process. Trust between artist and client is paramount, and I believe that fostering a collaborative environment yields the most meaningful and satisfying results.
In essence, I want potential clients to know that my dedication to tattooing goes beyond mere artistry—it’s a commitment to creating lasting, transformative experiences. Through a combination of skill, empathy, and dedication, I strive to exceed expectations and leave a lasting impression on each individual I have the privilege to work with.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can take several steps to best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem.
Financial support is crucial, with governments and organizations providing funding and grants to alleviate financial pressures on artists, allowing them to focus on their craft without worrying about stability. Additionally, offering venues and spaces for artists to showcase their work is vital. Whether it’s musicians, bands, painters, or other creatives, having accessible spaces to exhibit their art fosters a supportive environment for artistic expression and contributes to a vibrant creative community.
Furthermore, establishing proper educational centers specifically for the arts is essential.
These centers would cater to individuals who haven’t had the opportunity to pursue a formal academic diploma or attend art school but still seek to learn and master their craft. By providing accessible and specialized education in the arts, these centers empower aspiring artists to develop their skills and pursue their creative passions, regardless of their educational background.
Moreover, giving artists opportunities for media coverage can significantly boost their visibility and morale. Featuring artists as guests on TV or radio stations, where they are interviewed for at least five minutes, provides them with a platform to share their stories, inspirations, and creations. This not only gives artists a push and motivation to carry on but also highlights the importance of art in society, fostering a deeper appreciation for the role of artists in shaping culture and identity.
Additionally, it’s crucial to highlight the tattoo industry’s significance and the need for proper regulation. Governments should take this industry more seriously by implementing stricter monitoring of hygiene standards and requiring proper licensing for tattoo artists. Ensuring these measures are in place not only protects the health and safety of clients but also legitimizes the tattoo industry as a respected and regulated profession within the broader creative landscape.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I would like to divide this question to 2 parts. one as a tattoo artist and one as a founder/musician/composer who performs in a metal band.
As a Tattoo Artist:
The most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist is the profound impact I have on people’s lives through my art. Tattoos are deeply personal and symbolic, and being able to create permanent artwork that holds significant meaning for my clients is incredibly fulfilling. Every tattoo I create tells a unique story, and being entrusted with the responsibility of bringing someone’s vision to life on their skin is a privilege. Witnessing the joy, gratitude, and sometimes even tears of emotion from my clients when they see their finished tattoo is an indescribable feeling. Knowing that my art has the power to leave a lasting impression and become a cherished part of someone’s identity is truly rewarding.
As a Musician in a Metal Band:
The most rewarding aspect of being a musician in a metal band is the raw energy that comes from both performing live
and recording our tracks and connecting with the audience. Metal music is intense and emotive, and being able to channel that energy into a live performance or a record is an exhilarating experience. Seeing the crowd react, whether it’s headbanging, moshing, or simply feeling the music coursing through them, is incredibly gratifying. Metal music has a unique ability to evoke strong emotions and create a sense of unity among fans, and being able to be a part of that experience as a musician is truly rewarding.
That’s where I feel a very strong connection between tattoos and metal music; they both require boldness, they have messages, and they have loud and powerful meanings. They share a rebellious spirit and a desire to express oneself authentically, making them perfectly suited to each other.
