We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nightshade (Jerry) The Glow (Rodriguez). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nightshade (Jerry) below.
Nightshade (Jerry), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was a small child I would always put on small little shows for my great grandmother when she was bed ridden towards the end of her life. It got to the point that the whole neighborhood would come to watch me dance and that’s when I knew that I always wanted to be a performer and on stage.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Nightshade the Glow — singer, rapper, dancer, host, and your first ever and current reigning Mx. Tattooed Mom. I live for the stage and serve a retro-flavored dance pop fantasy inspired by legends like Prince, Janet Jackson, and Jody Watley. Think live vocals, sharp choreography, and just the right amount of drama to keep you gagged.
When I’m not lighting up the floor, I’m busy hosting and curating The Moment, my queer variety show that gives drag artists, singers, dancers, and all kinds of performers their time to shine. Everything I do is about celebrating queer joy and turning every space into a dance floor where everyone feels free to glow.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love when people feel seen and heard by music, the spaces I’m able to create with just my presence. I love making the space for people to feel free and loved when it comes to my events, and the goal is to always be empowering with my music and lyrics.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was believing I wasn’t good enough to make music on my own. I started making music with my best friend who passed away, and after losing them, I felt like I lost my voice too. For a while I thought I couldn’t create without them by my side.
Through that heartbreak I realized I had to be the light for myself. The lyrics I wrote during that time reminded me just how powerful and talented I am. That experience taught me that my gift was always mine, and now I carry their spirit with me every time I step on stage.
