We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nigeria Mchellon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nigeria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
It took me becoming an adult and a parent myself to understand the dedication, sacrifice and commitment it required to be as good of a parent as my Mom and Dad have been to me.
My parents taught me to have respect for myself and others. They instilled in me the importance of education and provided me with every opportunity possible to learn, grow and experience life to the fullest.
As I became an adult and a business owner I have my childhood memories to reflect on and guide me. As a parent I strive to provide my children with opportunities to explore, learn and be creative. As a family we value education and as a therapist I have a keen interested in supporting others which is demonstrated through my level of respect and compassion for all who I am privileged to serve.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Nigeria Mchellon I am from Jacksonville, Floirida and I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist. Therapy is what I know I’ve been called to do! I believe that everything in life is full of purpose and that each experience we go through can be used as a catalyst to grow. I am passionate about individual growth and diversity. It is my hope that each client that I am privileged to work with learns more about their individuality and the purpose they serve in the world around us.
My practice is composed of myself and a wonderful team of qualified therapists. One thing I am most proud of is knowing without a doubt that my clients leave better than they came. If I can make an impact, one person at a time, I win!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
In a society where things are constantly changing and individuals experience ever changing needs, being creative, innovative and available to my clients has been helpful to me. As a therapist I recognize that the World we live in throws so much at as and people find themselves longing for a safe space to heal, grow and to process their experiences. Being available to my clients has created a strong level of trust, stability and respect. Aside from training and knowledge, people want good, quality relationships that accept them for who they are while still challenging them to grow. I feel that I give that to my clients and it has allowed me to succeed in my field.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’ve dedicated my entire career to contributing to mental health and wellness. My reputation has been built on a foundation of being dedicated, authentic and consistent not only in my profession but in who I am as a person both personally and professionally. My community trusts me and I feel that what i have to offer is valuable to those who seek my services.
