We were lucky to catch up with Nigeria Cooper recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nigeria , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I give back to my community in several meaningful ways. One of my primary efforts is organizing book bag drives and back-to-school drives, ensuring that children in need have the supplies and resources they need to succeed academically. These events help relieve financial burdens for families, allowing students to start the school year with the tools they need to thrive.
I also host Halloween parties, bringing joy and excitement to local children by providing a safe, fun space to celebrate the holiday. It’s important to me to create moments of happiness and community spirit, especially for families who might be facing hardships.
Additionally, I contribute to the well-being of my neighbors by paying utility bills for those who are struggling financially. By helping to alleviate some of these essential expenses, I aim to reduce stress for individuals and families, allowing them to focus on other aspects of their lives without the worry of overdue bills.
Nigeria , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a proud mother of seven children, and I recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in June 2024. My journey to success wasn’t easy, but my determination and resilience carried me through every challenge. I began my professional career doing taxes from my living room, charging just ten dollars a return. It was a humble start, but my commitment to providing honest, reliable service quickly earned me a reputation for being resourceful and effective, especially in helping people resolve tax debt. Over time, my business grew, and I became well-known for my ability to find solutions and navigate complex financial situations.
Balancing motherhood, education, and work has been a true test of perseverance, but I’ve learned that with hard work, dedication, and the right mindset, anything is possible. My journey is a testament to the power of determination, and I hope it serves as an inspiration to others facing obstacles, no matter how big they may seem.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my clientele primarily through Facebook by leveraging smart marketing strategies. I make it a point to post three times a day, sharing valuable content that highlights my business and the services I offer. Each post is backed by solid facts that build credibility and trust with my audience. I believe in letting my clients speak for me—when you do great business, your satisfied customers will naturally become your best advocates.
When someone visits your page, the first thing they should see is what you’re selling, not personal information or unrelated posts. A potential client shouldn’t have to scroll through multiple posts to find out what you do. Consistency, clarity, and relevance in your marketing are key to drawing attention and building a successful online presence. By staying focused and professional, I’ve been able to attract a loyal client base and grow my business from the ground up.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
What started as a side hustle has now become my main hustle, all thanks to strategic marketing and the growth of my client base. I focused on building a strong online presence, which allowed me to connect with more people and showcase my expertise. Over time, my reputation grew, and my business took off—what was once just a way to earn extra income has now turned into a full-time venture.
There was a time when I worked for others, but now, I’m proud to say that I only work for myself. This transition wasn’t easy, but through hard work, dedication, and understanding the power of effective marketing, I’ve been able to build a business that not only sustains me but also gives me the freedom to pursue my own goals.
