We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nigel Rowe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nigel below.
Hi Nigel, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful; I believe it takes determination & will power. All of us have challenges along our path, but you can not allow yourself to be overcome by any challenge. Allow the challenges to strengthen you, to grow you. True success defies all odds. If you believe within yourself that you can accomplish something (no matter the task) ; I believe that if you work towards it – no matter how much time it takes – you can accomplish anything you dream of! I believe we were created that way.
Nigel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began singing in the school choir when I was 6 years old. I instantly knew that singing & performing felt apart of me. I started doing talent shows, plays, musicals, etc. and I began to understand what feeling alive was all about! I continued to perform throughout elementary, middle, and high school. You could catch me during breakfast, lunch, pep rally’s, soccer games, football games, basketball games, you name it! I was there with a microphone. This passion attracted other talent my sophomore year in HS, where I started a group. C.L.U.E. We had the best time as teenagers – rehearsing, performing, and laughing all around our school and the city! We performed and rehearsed like our lives depended on it. (We received support from ASPVA, which I still respect & love til this day.) I was very serious about my performances and still am. Anyone who’s worked with me will tell you that. We have fun, but we work hard too! That hard work is still paying off today!
After High School, I went to intern at Record Label (Southern Ground Records, home of Zac Brown Band), where my perspective of being an artist was completely shattered! I realized that every person who is consistently achieving greatness, is where they are, because of that determination and hard work that I mentioned before. Success is a by product of passion, hard work, talent, and drive! You have to want it for yourself! I was able to tangibly exist in someone’s else’s dream! It made a dream a reality for me! I’m still grateful for that experience to this day. Such a wealth of knowledge. After my internship, where I learned about touring, writing songs, running a business, building a fan base, etc. I came home to figure out how to apply this knowledge!
I ended up being in another group (D’Tour) where I was able to apply everything I learned at my internship. We recorded an album together, performed countless times, and really sharpened our skills together. It was a wonderful, transformative time for me. I will always appreciate those guys and that experience.
I began discovering myself as a solo artist/entertainer in 2015. Recorded a bunch of songs that will never see the light of day, performed a bunch of random gigs, etc. All preparation for where I’m headed now!
I finally released my first solo single “Remember the Night” in December 2019! A few months later, the pandemic happened and once again… I had to readjust & recalibrate.
Now; I’m a completely different person/artist than I was before the pandemic! I’ve released 5 singles since then, (Big Dreams, Get Back 2 Me, Good Enough, Christmas Time, I Just Wanna Love You) but my best is still on the way!
We’re just getting started!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media has become a force! When I initially started to even follow musical dreams, social media was not even a tenth of what it is today. Therefore, I’ve had to grow with the era! I keep in contact with my audience by interacting as much as possible, on a regular basis. It doesn’t always have to be music related. I comment on posts about the kids, the dogs, that meal you cooked, etc. I find joy in it. I love connecting with people naturally; so connecting with people who are already interested & engaged is super special! I treat each individual with their own special touch. People remember those things. My biggest advice to someone building an audience, would be to be authentic. Your people want to know YOU. Share things that make you laugh, etc. Also, don’t only interact when they interact with you. Engage first sometimes!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I am such a fan of greatness on every level. It doesn’t matter if you make pastries or if you’’re a brain surgeon. I find inspiration in everything! I spend a lot of time watching interviews or speeches from people whom I’m inspired by & respect. I find hearing people you admire, express everything that they have had to go through to get to where they are, is powerful! It lets you know that everyone starts at the beginning and you have to embrace the journey! I used to think it was about a destination. I now fully realize that it’s all a journey! Every single part of it! I could name a list of hundreds of people that I’m inspired by, but I will just say, find people who inspire you and listen to them share what they did, to become who they are!
