We were lucky to catch up with Nigel Lloyd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nigel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Honestly; a lot of trial and error. No one around me nor in my family never persuaded a career in music. So a lot of things I’ve had to learn along the way.
I could’ve been more consistent earlier on in my career.
The most essential skills, for me, would be resilience. Knowing how to adapt and switch gears according to the current circumstance.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into music early on, back in middle school. I’ve always been drawn to it. So; just following my curiosity and interest, it lead me to joining the school choir in middle school. I eventually landed in the music group in high school called L.C.B; which became S.G.M Click in college. Where I soon began my journey as a solo artist..
I’ve auditioned for American Idol and The Voice, which were all great experiences, but nothing came of it. So I pressed forward as an independent artist and started my own music company, Opulent Xound Xchange.
Her we focus on the artists and treat them as entities. Giving insight and teaching them how to operate and run their own music company. I hate for artists and other songwriters to be cheated out of their intellectual property and hard work.
Also; being a writer I have created writing services for those and/or companies that need it. I write for other singers and I also provide advertising music for companies(jingles).
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is seeing my work come into fruition! And I love seeing how it inspires others to go for their dreams as well. To know God placed me on earth to use my gift for good me; means the world to me. So I have to give back to Him.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
This goal is still the same… to life out my life through my dreams. For I know it’s possible.
