We were lucky to catch up with Nigel Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nigel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I began drawing when I was five years old. I just looked at something, grabbed a sketchbook, and went with it. Growing up I used to see my Father working on the computer all the time doing graphic design work. Even though this was different from drawing I still was intrigued. I went to him and asked if could he teach me and well the rest is history.
Art and design have always been a dream of mine, and I’m glad I went down this path. It’s nothing like creating and telling a story using a gift that was given at birth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina (NC). I always had a passion for art, but wasn’t sure where it would take me. I ended up leaving home in 2013 to venture off to college. I started off at Wake Technical Community College and transferred to North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where I studied Visual Communications. What made going to NCCU so special for me is that my Mother, Father, and Stepmother went there. My Father was in the same art department back in 1995, where he studied Visual Communications, and some of his professors taught me as well, so it made it extra special.
After graduating from NCCU, I wasn’t quite ready for the “real world” just yet, so I was back to trying to figure out life. I started my business in 2019 – Nigel Jones Designs while also deciding to further my education and apply to grad school. When I started my business I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing honestly. I learned a lot of business tactics from YouTube, Google, and my Father. Over the years it was definitely a balancing act between grad school, and catering to the business. I did my grad school work during the week while working my business during the weekend.
The types of services I originally started off doing were mostly graphic design work. I eventually ventured off to graphic design, painting, and sculpting. I help my clients bring their dream projects to life. What sets me apart from others is the story I tell through my work – whether that’s a graphic, painting, or sculpture. My goal is to have my clients satisfied and have them talk about my work for many years to come – and inspire the next generation.
What I’m most proud of are my accomplishments thus far. I had two solo art shows, graduated top of my class, and got a job in my career along with my business. It’s only the beginning, and I’m grateful for everything thus far in my life. What I want people to know about my brand is that I focus on the three C’s: Color, Culture, and Comprehensiveness. Many of my pieces show vibrant colors and different cultures and religions are the foundational themes found in my work.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
To best support artists/creatives in the field all it takes is a simple share of the work via social media. As a social media society that’s all it would take to succeed (along with buying the work of course). But since sharing something is free – I feel like that would be the best route. You never know how that makes someone feel – especially when they worked hard on something.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s so many rewarding aspects in this field! I would say the most rewarding aspect is seeing the clients look on their faces after a project is complete. It never gets old, and knowing that you made their day makes the job fulfilling. Everything I do is an expression of myself along with the client. Dabbling and being creative is also a rewarding aspect because I’m doing what I love to do and trying new things in the process. All my clients tend to give me projects that challenge me, but I love every minute of it.
