We recently connected with Nigel Angevine and have shared our conversation below.
Nigel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I believe that they’re are too many people that feel they aren’t “photo worthy” and I strive to show each and every person that I work with that that’s not the case. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin and that feeling on a client’s face when they see the beauty in themselves that others see is an indescribable sense of joy. My main goal is to eventually be able to travel the country and providing that feeling of inner joy all over.

Nigel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It’s actually a pretty funny story of how I started photography. I’ve never been one to take many pictures growing up, but my father had been in the business for a while at the time. He had accidentally double booked a wedding and instead of having to cancel one of them, asked me if he showed me the basic ins and outs of a DSLR/lighting, if I’d cover it instead. After that first session I thoroughly enjoyed it and decided to take on his overflow for the time being. That following December, I bought my own camera and decided to pursue a business of my own.
Being born and raised in Camden, South Carolina, I’ve always been into art and being as creative as possible. So this was just a step in bringing that energy into a different medium.
Although I mainly focus on portrait sessions, I do provide services for weddings and events as well. I do feel though, that regardless of what kind of session it is, that getting to know the person you’re working with and actually making a genuine connection with them will always help to bring out the best in both parties. Besides, I’m all about making sure that everyone is comfortable and having a great time! There’s no law that says you can’t be professional and fun at the same time.
One of the things I’d say that sets me apart from others and why I think I have repeat clients that have been booking for years is that I’m not traditional in the sense of what you’d picture of your average photographer. Yes, I strive to make sure each individuals session is everything they wanted and more, specifically unique to that person’s liking, and a selection of props and accessories to accent, but I also want the vibe to be relaxed. Joking around, getting natural smiles, admitting mistakes and laughing over them while we fix them, and just allowing people to be at their most comfortable.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, just being an easily approachable person. The fact that you can see my personality and dedication in my work definitely shows I’m all about having fun while providing the quality of work I’d expect for myself as well.

Any advice for managing a team?
Always make sure that everyone is on the same page and enjoying themselves. Yes times get rough and sometimes we make mistakes, but never dwell on them. All you can do is shake it off, learn from it on what you can do better the next time and always keep a smile on your face.
