Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Niesha White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Niesha, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope that my legacy inspires the undervalued and underrepresented to dream their biggest dreams, then double them. I want them to know that there isn’t a limit to what they can achieve.
I hope I inspire others to keep learning, reinvent themselves, and do things that they truly find pleasure in. I want to leave my mark in tech in whatever capacity that may be.
I hope I’m remembered as a true innovator and someone who motivated others and helped them begin the life of their dreams.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started off my tech career as a Front End Developer and today I’m a UX Consultant. A UX Consultant is basically a UX Designer with a stronger focus on the business aspects of the design of a User Experience. Where a UX Designer typically focuses on a service or product, I take a holistic look at a business and the customer’s entire journey. My job is to get to the root of what’s really causing a bad UX and transform business processes as well as design applications.
Outside of being a UX Consultant, I am also the founder of Birmingham Black Techies and Flex UX Work. I started Birmingham Black Techies in November 2019 as a way to connect with local technologists and tech enthusiasts and also provide insight and motivation for those hoping to break into tech. I know how tough it can be breaking into the tech space, especially when you’re Black, so I created a space for us to connect with our local tech ecosystem, learn, and see that we are not alone and do have a space in technology.
Flex UX Work is a new venture that is in the process of a full launch! As a UX Consultant, I know how tough it is to find good projects and temp jobs to sustain you. Flex UX Work will connect UX professionals with clients who are seeking short-term support. My hope is to empower UX talent to take control of their careers and reduce the stress that comes with countless hours of searching for contract and freelance gigs.
Last, I am a recent Adobe XD Ambassador! Designers and design teams around the world use Adobe XD for collaborating throughout the design process, from ideation, research, wireframing, and prototyping, to developer handoff. Adobe XD has been my favorite design tool since it came out, so I’m thrilled to get to share my expertise and motivate new UX Designers to keep creating and growing.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives me the most is enjoyment. One of my main goals is to discover all of the things that bring me joy and do more of them. I also never want to limit myself or feel like I have to stay in a box. I want to do all of the things and do them well.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What’s helped my reputation is doing good work! I always try my best and I’m big on not overpromising what I can deliver. If I’m not sure if I can do something, I’ll say that. Being honest will get you a long way.
