Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nidhi Sharma. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nidhi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
“In 2021, we moved into our new home—a blank canvas filled with endless possibilities. Like any excited new homeowner, I was eager to make our house feel like a home, and decorating became my passion. As I dove into decorating, I found myself searching for the perfect piece to add character and warmth to out front door. After a lot of searching and not finding what I had in mind, I decided to create something unique myself, a wreath that reflect my vision.
Little did I know, that simple decision would be the beginning of something wonderful. Just a few weeks later, a lovely couple stopped by and admired my wreath. They asked me where I got it and shared how much they loved it. When I told them I made it, they asked if I could make one for them, too. That moment marked my very first sale and the unexpected beginning of a creative journey that continues to inspire me today.
Nidhi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
“My name is Nidhi Sharma, and I am the proud owner and designer of Craftsygenes by Nidhi.
I am a loved wife, a mother of two, and a teacher turned full-time crafter.
I was born and raised in India. Shortly after the birth of our first child, we relocated to Kentucky in 2012 for my husband’s work, embracing the opportunity as an exciting new adventure in a different part of the world. In 2016, we moved once more, this time to Washington state, which we have proudly called home ever since.
I grew up watching my mom craft and create beautiful home decor. From knitting and sewing to crocheting, painting, and embroidery, she had a special way of bringing artistry and charm into our home. Her creativity inspired me from a young age, and I’ve always felt that I inherited this artistic side from her. That’s why I named my business Craftsygenes—a tribute to the creativity that runs in my family and the legacy she passed down to me.
Crafting has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve turned it into a creative business that brings joy and warmth to others.
I take great pride in my journey and the decision to leave my full-time job to follow my passion for handmade crafts and home decor. I feel truly blessed to have a supportive and caring family, with my husband serving as the steadfast, unseen pillar who continuously guides and empowers me to stand strong.
From seasonal wreaths and garlands to table decor and tree decorations, I pour my heart into every piece I make.
My workspace is a cozy craft room in my home, where creativity comes to life and where I embrace the joy of designing unique pieces for every season and occasion.
In addition to selling locally, I also have an Etsy shop where I share my work with customers who value the charm and warmth of handmade decor. Crafting allows me to combine my love for creativity with the joy of helping others bring beauty into their homes.”
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
“Supporting small businesses means supporting creativity, passion, and dreams. Not many people shop handmade these days, but when you choose to buy from a small business, you’re not just purchasing a product—you’re giving hope and wings to someone’s dream. Every sale brightens our day, inspires us, and motivates us to keep creating.
I dream of seeing whimsical, handmade wreaths on every door, unique pieces crafted with love and care, and full of character, not the mass-produced versions you find in stores. Handmade items carry a story, a personal touch, and a kind of magic that simply can’t be replicated.
Thank you for choosing handmade. Together, we bring a little more magic and meaning to everyday life.”
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Practice makes perfect. It’s a myth!!
No one is perfect—perfection is a delusion.
Too often, people confuse perfection with improvement, using it as a tool to pull others down or make themselves feel superior. But the truth is, practice leads to growth, and growth is a lifelong journey. Learning is constant, continual, and never-ending.
I’m not perfect, and I never will be. But that’s not my goal. I take things one step at a time. As I enter my fourth year in business, I’m still learning—whether it’s mastering new techniques, creating fresh designs, or figuring out how to navigate multiple social media platforms.
I learn by doing. I learn from my mistakes. I practice, improve, and become a better version of myself each time. Growth isn’t about being flawless; it’s about showing up, trying, and evolving everyday.
