Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
We have managed our own social media since the start and I have continued on my own to do so since my fellow partners have left. In the beginning we did have social media influencers take over for market days or do some of our social media videos. I do wish I could afford someone to do my social media, but at the moment can not. I do believe that consistency is key to a successful media platform. I know it can get tiring posting every day and stories, but keep at it! My advice would be to start off small and gradually grow. I try to tell my vendors to always tag us and I will always repost or like a post they created. One thing I need to do more of is engage in others post more often than I do, which is a goal of mine. Also, I want to do more Tik Tok trends. I have noticed recently with Tik Tok and boosting posts have really worked more than when I boost my instagram posts.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner of Sunny Side Up Market, a mother of a 5 month old, originally from NY and I love exploring. I organized farmers and artisan markets. I provide a way for local artisans to showcase/ sell their products, food, or beverages. I also organize live music and yoga classes for each market, as well. I got into this business by having a passion for local finds and community based activities. I am the most proud of the community that has been created surrounding Sunny Side Up Market.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson or advice I would love to give as to owning your own business is that it is not for the weak. You have to be able to take criticism at any level. You will go through ups and downs; the downs being so far down you do not think you can get back up. There are days you want to give up but you keep going. I have learned that as in business, as well as, in life: don’t sweat the small stuff. Also, TRY not to compare yourself to others. Keep your vision of what you want from your business and the life you want to create for yourself in your focus at all times. I had to learn that over the years and still am trying to learn to take things with stride.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what has helped my reputation with the business is being understanding, as much as you can be, and kind. Obviously, this is your business and you need to focus on what is best for your business. But, what makes your business is the relationships that you form with your clients and visitors. Also, listening to new ideas or asking advice is a great way to building lasting business relationships.
