Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Weber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nicole , thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
The short answer is yes! Following my graduation in 2019 with a BFA and a focus on Graphic Design, I secured a position as a graphic designer at a local entertainment company. Simultaneously, I took on a few clients each month, creating logos and fine art pieces on the side. However, six months into my job, the impact of COVID resulted in the elimination of my position, prompting me to scramble for new opportunities.
In a few months, I landed another full-time role at a marketing agency. Juggling this job with my growing client base became challenging as my freelance work gained momentum. Eventually, I made the decision to leave the marketing agency and transition Nicole Weber Design into a full-time venture in the summer of 2021.
Upon making my business my primary focus, I prioritized showcasing my work on social media. In 2022, a video I posted gained significant traction, bringing in a surge of new clients. As my social media presence expanded, so did my workload. To manage the increasing demands, I hired my first employee to assist with administrative tasks a few months later.
The growth continued, and by August 2023, I found it necessary to bring on board my first full-time designer. Since then, our workload has doubled, and we now handle nearly 20 clients monthly, specializing in various logo and branding projects. Additionally, we have gained an online community of over 400,000 across all platforms.
Just a few months ago, we reached another milestone by bringing on our first intern and securing our very first Nicole Weber Design office space. I am thrilled about the ongoing growth and incredibly grateful for the supportive team and community that have been instrumental in this journey.
Reflecting on the past, my only regret is not building a team sooner. Nevertheless, I am genuinely pleased with how everything has unfolded and am immensely thankful for the business and the supporters who have been by my side.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Nicole Weber, the Owner and Lead Designer at Nicole Weber Design! We’re a creative agency specializing in logo and brand design, catering to a diverse clientele.
What distinguishes us from other designers is our adaptability to various styles. We pride ourselves on being versatile and avoiding confinement to a specific design aesthetic. Our unique approach to client collaboration is another key aspect that sets us apart. We are deeply passionate about ensuring our clients’ satisfaction, fostering a collaborative environment, and building lasting relationships based on trust.
Beginning as a side hustle, Nicole Weber Design has evolved into a full-fledged agency in less than three years, thanks to the influential role of social media. Over the past year, we’ve achieved significant milestones, including the addition of two full-time designers and securing our first office space.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My overarching aim in my creative journey is to continue to do what I love each day- creating. With the ownership of my design business, the fulfillment lies in earning a living from my passion and doing it on my own terms. As the business expands, my commitment is to ensure that I continue to design, and never loose sight of why I started my business in the first place.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most fulfilling aspect of my work is seeing our designs come to life. Receiving a client’s real-world application of their branding or logo is an incredibly gratifying experience. I remember a moment when a client personally delivered a gift box featuring their logo, along with a collection of branded items. It genuinely made my entire week!
