We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Veliz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
As a financial coach, there is such a stigma surrounding finances and how you should spend your money. There are many opinions on the several budgeting plans and the proper way to manage money. There isn’t a one size fits all method that works for everyone. Financial success looks different for every individual. I take a personalized approach where I focus on the needs and wants for the individual or family and we come up with a customized approach. In this tactic, we see results while still indulging in the wants that make people feel happy but finding the balance that is healthy too. Budgeting doesn’t mean you have to cut everything out! It is important to live the life you want and enjoy the things you love within moderation.
One of my clients loves to ice skate. We were able to make accommodations to her budget in other areas to compensate for her love of ice skating. She explained to me the background and importance of what ice skating meant to her. We were able to work together to come up with a plan that worked for her situation. A lot of clients think that seeing a financial coach means that all that all fun has to stop, but that’s not true. I work with my clients on still living the life they love but work on behaviors and other out of the box ideas to achieve this.
Managing money doesn’t have to be a daunting task, it can actually be something you look forward to if you have the right tools in place!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a great interest in personal finance and years of experience in the financial industry. I specialize in providing tailored financial coaching services to individuals and families seeking to take control of their finances through education and guidance.
Personal finances are an incredibly important topic to me as I have experienced and worked with several people close to me going through transitions and need that support starting over. It gives me so much joy and happiness knowing that I can help people during a time of uncertainty.
I have a strong belief in supporting my community. Through my experiences in supporting many of the women in my life navigate through difficult financial transitional times, I have a developed a passion for serving women who are going through divorce/separation, single mothers, and educating young adults.
As a young adult I never received the education needed regarding personal finances. As many young adults do, I racked up credit card debt, student loan debt and my spending was all over the place – I had no idea where my money was going. This carried over to my adult life with my spouse as I never thought there was a way to correct this state of thinking. Fast forward to today, I was able to develop and execute a plan to get us debt free and keep us debt free, develop a substantial savings, and plan for the future.
I always wonder what I could have done if I had these tools sooner but it’s never too late to realize and make the change.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best way I get clients are through referrals and word of mouth. The other major way I get clients are through partnerships. I have established several working relationships with people within the financial services industry and local business partners from different industries within the community. Lastly, I go to several networking events and try network as much as possible to get my name out there as I am trying to grow my business!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I focus on creating individual relationships and my clients are not just a number to me. I really try to understand the personal elements that lead to their financial decisions to really get to know the person and develop that interpersonal rapport. With this approach, I can focus on understanding their spending habits more and get to know what is important to them.
I love people and have always been a people person. I strive to continue the relationship even after our contract ends. There are still previous clients that I continue to meet up with for coffee to see how things are going. The interpersonal relationship is just as important to me as the business relationship.
