Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole St. John. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Nicole , appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Finding momentum grew from my life’s story. I have spent my life struggling with mental health issues. Until recently they were often ignored, or I was accused of wanting attention or needing an excuse. Moving through life and seeing other’s struggles I knew I had to do something. So Finding Momentum was born. A clothing and accessories company that was founded with the goal of creating a movement to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and ensure access to help.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a creative person and I love the behind the scenes work, building the website, designing the graphics for the clothes. I also love writing which is where the blog aspect came from and I now have an amazing team that helps me write the blogs, allowing for different perspectives. Between Finding Momentum allowing me to be a business owner I am also a professional photographer and own Uff Da Photography Co. both companies allow me to be creative, work with amazing people, and spread awareness about mental health!

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

We do not sell on anything other than our website, however since we are a new business we keep costs low by using a print on demand company.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I have walked through much trauma in my life from bullying, loss, and abuse. They are part of my story and have formed who I am today, there are a lot of things I’m still healing from to this day and I am beyond grateful for my wonderful husband who strives to understand and the support of my small community of close friends!
