We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Pringle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I would like to say that Show Ya Write Entertainment is a passion & mission driven company. I founded SYWEnt back in 2022 because I needed a company to produce a short film that I had written and was gearing up to self-produce. I wrote the film because I wanted to be a lead in an action movie and my cinematographer wanted to film a project with a gun/fight sequence. So I wrote something that was mutually beneficial. Out of that, was born the mission to continue to create opportunities for myself and other indie filmmakers and creatives to produce their projects.

Nicole, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a performer whether I was making up songs in my room, singing in the church youth choir, School chorus,
or performing in school plays. I attended Anderson University (Anderson, SC) where I obtained my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. After graduating college, I moved to Atlanta and started out in community theater before transitioning to TV and Film in 2011. Over the years, I have met some wonderful and interesting people who have taught me so many valuable lessons. One of the most important lessons I have learned in this industry is the importance of finding your tribe, your ride & live crew. I started paying attention to my favorite actors and directors and noticed that they always worked with the same core group of people, and everyone had their own production company. And it just hit me! Hollywood is nothing more than friends making movies/shows with their friends (and sometimes family).
That’s the main reason I created Show Ya Write Entertainment, so that I too could make some dope projects with my friends.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to divorce my fear of rejection. That’s how I phrase it. I was always afraid of getting up in front of larger audiences or stepping into larger “rooms”, giving my all or asking for help and being rejected. It wasn’t until I was trying to raise money to go down to Orlando, FL to compete in the Annual AMTC Talent convention that I had to face that fear head on. I think it was about $3k that I had to raise in a short amount of time. When I reached out to friends and family with that dollar amount, the reaction was always, “Ooo baby, I can’t help you with that, but I’ll be praying for you.” I was SO discouraged. I was talking to my best friend about it and she told me to break that number down to a number that didn’t scare people. So, if 150 people gave $20, I would have the monies that I needed. I realized that I knew 150 people directly and indirectly, so I changed my campaign and I was able to raise the monies that I needed to go. Since then, I stopped saying “No.” for people and just started reaching out to EVERYONE, because the people you think will, won’t (for various reasons), and the people you think won’t, will. The people that say “no”, aren’t saying no to you, they could have something going on in their life that you know nothing about. And if it IS you that they’re saying no to, brush it off and keep moving because YOUR “yes” is waiting for you to show up.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
My very first project was “What Ever Happened to Mr. & Mrs. Smyth?”, a fan-made sequel to “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”. I was able to get my locations for free because of family and friend connections. One location was shot gorilla style with stealth and quickness, lol. There were a lot of things that I did have to purchase and I also wanted to make sure that I paid my cast and crew and I fed them well while we were on set. I set up a GoFundMe account, put together a video and took lots of pre-production pictures to share on the campaign. I also set up a donation tier system give back to donors. Then I created an IG page for Show Ya Write Ent. and posted an update every day. I raised just under $3k and then the rest of the funds were out of pocket.
