Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Pettit. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
There is definitely a trend in weddings where things are more sustainable. More seeds and plants being used for decoration and favors. So many of my couples have less array of bridesmaids dresses that match color or style, which I love! Perfection is becoming less standard in a big event like your wedding day- the less things that are exact, the more laid back and stress free your day can be. Also, a giant uptick in elopements for the ease, flexibility and comfortability of life in the last two years.
Families are making more use of the time they get together. Holidays and anniversaries are used for extended family gatherings so often.
More families celebrating their every day moments. Those 5 year old birthday parties where your whole family is dressed like dinosaurs around Halloween, or the genuine interactions of your children playing. Life is so short, and those tiny toothless smiles get big so fast!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a wife and mommy and live in northern Colorado- Johnstown to be exact. We’ve been here for the last 9 years and love it!
I have always been very involved in photographing landscapes. Developing film from as early as I can remember, and then once working in retail selling cameras specifically, my fascination became passion and I bought my very first professional camera 12 years ago. People became my main subject. Seniors, families & couples are my absolute favorite clients. I’ll be celebrating 10 years of Nicole Pettit Photography this year!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to make my clients visions come to life. A certain location or incorporating a theme is so fun, and keeps my creative juices flowing. One thing that I’ve tried to do recently is participate in shoots I either set up myself, or that other photographers are hosting. Shooting what themes and subjects I can dream up is a way to really step back and approach things from a different perspective when I feel repetitive and unimaginative.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
A huge part of my business marketing is word of mouth. In my area, it’s wonderful when a client posts their photos online or on social media and raves about my business. If they post their recommendations for me in their local groups, it really fuels my page and website being viewed. Google reviews are a great tool I’ve seen get my business seen outside of local clients!
