Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Perfetuo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
June of 2023 was a whirlwind for me. I was capturing the joy and love of countless weddings, each one a beautiful story waiting to be told through my lens. But one particular ceremony took an unexpected turn, a moment that forever changed how I see my role beyond wedding photography.
The day started like any other. The couple was radiant, the setting idyllic, and the energy electric. I was positioned at the head of the ceremony, camera poised to capture the walks of the wedding party. As the music swelled and the groom stepped forward, a sound shattered the joyous atmosphere. A loud bang right next to me.
Time seemed to warp. Everything slowed down in a daze, yet the urgency of the situation demanded immediate action. Confusion turned into a flurry of movement as people rushed towards the fallen officiant. Adrenaline kicked in, and a different part of my training came to the forefront.
While most wouldn’t expect a wedding photographer to be a medical professional, my background in Critical Care Nursing instantly took over. My second photographer took charge of my equipment, freeing me to jump into action.
It turned out, there were other medical heroes present that day. A new resident, a physician’s assistant, and a nurse practitioner materialized. Together, we formed a team. A call for an AED echoed, and CPR began.
The next few minutes were a blur of focused teamwork. We rotated through compressions and administered shocks with the AED. After what felt like an eternity, the officiant regained consciousness. Relief washed over all of us and shortly after EMS arrived to take over.
This experience solidified the importance of Basic Life Support (BLS) training across all professions. You never know when you might be the one who can make a difference in someone’s life. In the midst of capturing love stories, I was unexpectedly given the chance to write a different kind of story – one of teamwork, resilience, and the invaluable power of being prepared for the unexpected.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi everyone! I’m a wedding photographer based here in Boston, Massachusetts. But there’s another side to me – for the past five years, I’ve also been an ICU nurse.
These might seem like entirely different worlds, but they actually come together beautifully in my photography. My experiences in critical care have instilled in me a deep appreciation for human connection, for the raw emotions that bind us all. It’s a perspective I carry with me when capturing the magic of your wedding day.
While I love the staged formals and picture-perfect details, what truly sets my heart on fire is the chance to document the genuine, unposed moments – the tear in your dad’s eye as he walks you down the aisle, the pure joy on your faces during your first dance, the unrestrained laughter shared with loved ones. These are the moments that truly tell the story of your love, and that’s what I strive to capture in every frame.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Today’s couples getting married, mostly in their 20s and 30s, are digitally connected. That’s why I leverage the power of social media, particularly Instagram and Facebook, to showcase my work and connect with potential clients. This allows me to target tech-savvy couples locally and across the U.S.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being creative is undoubtedly capturing human emotion. It might seem unexpected coming from an ICU nurse, but my passion for photography and my deep desire for human connection all intertwine. These seemingly different paths have actually shaped a unique lens through which I see the world, allowing me to capture the profound beauty of human emotions, especially in unexpected places.
