We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicole Ortiz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicole below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
There was never any specific timing in my life where I was like, “you know what, I want to do creative hair “. In 2017 I initially I couldn’t decide if I wanted to finish BSN for nursing. My mother suggested doing hair because I was also a freelance make up artist for several years. So I had both contracts for the schools in front of me that work to on the same day. And my mother made a negative comment stating that I would never finish my nursing degree. So I ended up signing the cosmetology contract. So it turns out I am not too shabby doing hair. Everyone has walked out with her unless otherwise specified.

Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So I have been in the industry since 2018 with Ulta beauty salon. I never knew that this was going to be my career. I’ve always prided myself on my work. Yes there has been times where I did not like my work. Some say that I’m a perfectionist. I specialize in vivid hair colors. Such as red, blue, purple, pretty much any color of the rainbow as well as, platinum white, textured hair, and my signature blowouts. I take numerous classes a year for my continuing education credits. I feel that it’s a huge key to keep on taking classes throughout your career because the industry that I am in, you will always be learning new techniques for the hair. My name on social media Nicole Ortiz Hairapist. And the reason being is because your guests are there to get away, to have some peace and quiet, to talk to somebody else other than family, and because they trust you. I Have clients that have been with me since 2018. We have developed a bond that is different from family members. My clients know that I’m very honest, I’m very blunt, I keep it extremely real, and I always keep it transparent with them. I’ve shed tears with clients, hugs, love, & stories beyond. Also I think what’s most important is when it comes to hair services, I keep it 100% transparent with my clients and what’s going to look good on them, what’s not gonna look good on them, if they’re going to be wasting their money on getting a certain service, I always let them know if I messed up on their hair. I never try to hide it. And they always appreciate it. I think that’s what sets me apart from other people in the industry.
If you were to ask my clients what are the top five words to describe “Nicole”…..
Honest
Caring
Sassy
Loud
Spicy
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal as a hairstylist and as a creative hairstylist, is to work behind the scenes of photo shoots, runway shows, and potentially be a celebrity hairstylist. Right now I am going to be currently working on a goal of auditioning for the design team for Ulta. Essentially what the design team does is hair and make up for certain photo shoots and hair award shows.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing my clients smile after I completed their hair look. The best feeling ever when they have like a megawatt smile from ear to ear. And if they end up crying due to the huge transformation and they love it, that’s when I drop the mic and know I’ve done a great job
