Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Niles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner is hard work their is so much to consider when owning a business especially in a small town with such a completive business to be in . There have been times where ill drive out to my studio and no-one shows up and then I’ve lost that that business for the day no message back either.
Also there are times that people just aren’t booking either because there is so many other photographers in my area so they decide to go with a different photographer .
There is also sometimes that a lot of money goes right back into my business for equipment and props etc. so that is difficult sometimes as well .
In despite of all the struggles I deal with being a photographer and a business owner I would never change it.
I’m so passionate about what I do there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a peoples reactions to there photos when the receive them back.
When society in general looks at my work and is proud of me and that is a feeling I could get no other place.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How I started this journey for the love of photography started when I was in middle school. I got inspired by my mother My mom was a photographer. She would take pictures of me ,because for me I enjoyed getting my photo taken . In school I had low self esteem. I was bullied and was slower at learning things then my peers. I was in special education, so taking photos with my mom made me feel so good about myself. As time went on I made it to my graduation.
My mom decided she was going to retire from photography and pass on her legacy to me .So for my graduation she gave me my first camera which was a Canon 35mm. I was so excited to start my journey. Starting out I practiced on my family. My first shoot was my sisters maternity pictures. Then eventually I upgraded to a Nikon 855mm camera and practiced with people. I also started taking photographs of wildlife and landscapes as well . Eventually I upgraded 1 more time before I got my DSLR camera Nikon D500 . I believe that all these cameras that I had helped me grow into the experienced photographer I am today, though its not the camera that makes a picture its the talent I have .
I started working with models when IAMHERMODELING one day said that she wanted to do a photoshoot with me .She was self conscious but wanted to prove to herself that she was beautiful .I can tell you the feeling I got when she received her photos back made me feel so good. I helped her look at herself in a different light. This accomplishment honestly can be breathtaking watching someone fall in love with themselves. .. We have become a team in this way that we want other women to feel the same way. We deserve to love ourselves no matter what . That is how our body positivity photoshoots started .Our first one was featured in our local newspaper about spreading positivity that all body’s are beautiful. Also we were recognized by the senator of Michigan thanking us for changing the stigma
. I think honestly what sets my photography apart from others is my ability to help people feel good about themselves .I also enjoy making memories, laughing or living in the moment. Life can be extremely difficult, so if I can help take away those hard times just for that moment I’ve done my job . There’s nothing better than seeing someone laugh or smile. What I would like people to experience when they see the variety of my photographs that it tells a story of my subject whether it be wildlife, landscape ,children/ family or a model .I’ve always said that I don’t do one specific genre in photography. I like to say I enjoy them all.. So when you look at my photography know that a lot of love and thought went into that photograph .
I’m so extremely proud of myself that I’ve made it this far in my career. 11 years later I now have a indoor studio and been in multiple magazines . I am also thankful for the inspiration of IAMHERMODELING . What I would say to anyone that has a dream is don’t ever give up. Some days will be difficult, but if you love it don’t ever stop trying, even when you can be your own worst critic .
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly I would have to say word of mouth and social media mainly marketing planned photoshoots to groups on Facebook and sharing with friends and family. Also people seeing my worked shared when i get tagged on a social media platform helps a lot.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My talent for sure and my ability to do something outside the box with my photographs. I provide something different with my clients. I also have to say its having a good professional attitude and always being kind .
