We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Murri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
For years, I felt misunderstood—both as an artist and as a person. There was pressure to conform, to create what was expected rather than what truly inspired me. People sometimes saw my work as too unconventional or assumed it wouldn’t resonate because it didn’t fit into traditional jewelry trends.
But I’ve always believed that real beauty lies in authenticity. My jewelry isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about self-expression, confidence, and breaking free from expectations—something I’ve had to embrace in my own journey as well.
Looking back, I realize that being misunderstood was actually a gift. It pushed me to stay true to my creative vision, to build a business that celebrates individuality, and to connect with others who also refuse to blend in. And that’s been the most rewarding part of it all.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Nicole, the creator behind Metallic Bloom, where I handcraft unique jewelry, do my own leather work, and cut my own stones to bring each piece to life. My journey started with a deep love for gemstones and metalwork, which evolved into a business that blends artistry with individuality.
What makes my craft unique is the combination of hand-cut stones, multi-metal designs, and a focus on bold, expressive pieces. Every piece is thoughtfully crafted to highlight the natural beauty of the materials and to serve as a form of personal expression.
I take pride in offering high-quality, handcrafted jewelry that celebrates uniqueness and creativity. My goal is to empower others to express themselves unapologetically through what they wear.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists and a thriving creative ecosystem by valuing and investing in handmade, original work. This means prioritizing independent artists over mass-produced goods, compensating creatives fairly, and recognizing the time, skill, and passion that go into their craft.
Education and accessibility also play a big role—teaching art appreciation, providing funding for creative programs, and making space for artists to showcase their work in communities and online. Encouraging collaboration rather than competition helps build a stronger creative network where artists can thrive together.
Ultimately, true support comes from understanding that art isn’t just a luxury—it’s an essential part of culture, identity, and self-expression.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to bring ideas to life and create something meaningful that resonates with others. Seeing someone connect with a piece I’ve made—whether it’s because it reflects their personality, holds sentimental value, or simply makes them feel confident—is incredibly fulfilling.
I also love the freedom of creative exploration, pushing boundaries with materials and techniques to craft something truly unique. Knowing that my work allows people to express themselves in a way that feels authentic is what makes this journey so rewarding.
