We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Murguia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Having my own business and caring for my clients has been life-changing. My top priority is making each client feel safe and comfortable. It’s so gratifying to come into contact with so many special people. I knew I wanted to help people, and accomplished that goal every time I left my studio. It’s such an honor. Every client that walks through my door leaves feeling more confident. I can help through physical confidence, but I care about the life and well-being of each of my clients. The mission in my career is making connections, getting to know my customers’ lives, and being able to support and encourage them.
Nicole, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Nicole the owner of Hunnie Esthetics. Hunnie Esthetics is my small business focusing on hair removal by wax. I perform head-to-toe body waxing for men and women. This includes facial, bikini, and other body waxing. Waxing removes hair from the root to have smooth skin that lasts much longer than shaving or other forms of hair removal. I’ve been a licensed esthetician for about 6 years now. When I was in school I had an amazing mentor who taught me everything she knew about waxing. I focused on that area of esthetics and crafted it into my specialty. I worked for a waxing franchise for almost 5 years and then left for other opportunities in the beauty industry. I decided to see where my skill set could take me. Opening up my studio was such an exciting experience. I pride myself on being an efficient speed waxer. I use the best wax fit for my clients: hypoallergenic, vegan-friendly, and cruelty-free. Skin safety is my first concern with anything I use in my studio. I love being able to connect with clients in a space that expresses who I am and shows a little bit of who I am. Waxing can be a vulnerable experience for clients so I try my best to make the process as comfortable and easy as possible. I value relationships with my clients more than anything. Earning the trust of clients is the most rewarding thing about my job.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve never been someone who was very active on social media. The idea of marketing myself and my business on social media was intimidating. I searched through plenty of active business pages to gain inspiration. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that the most important thing with building an audience on social media is to be yourself. If you show your personality you will attract an audience that is most like you if you are genuine. Once I stopped overthinking and posted what I liked, I started gaining a following that was like minded. Those followers became clients who came to me because they connected with what I was sharing. I think being genuine shines through and draws the right type of business.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I listen to a podcast called The Waxing Podcast that has had a big impact on my business philosophy. The host has many inspiring entrepreneurs in the esthetic world on the podcast who share personal stories. One story in particular that stuck with me was a guest discussing her “why”. Having a why with a business gives you a compass to navagate with. At the end of the day remembering your why keeps you true to your mission. I reflect on my why almost daily. It keeps me rooted in what I would like to accomplist with the future of Hunnie Esthetics.
