Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole McCance. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nicole , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a Psychologist, after I was able to scale my clinic to 55 therapists in 3 years and multiple 7 figures, I knew I had to take it to my peers. The truth is, as therapists, we didn’t learn anything about business in grad school. We end up in private practice with no idea how to grow..
After I ended up selling my clinic to a Psychiatrist in 2022 rather than retiring at the age of 41, I stepped into the role of Business Coach for therapists giving them the exact road map of how I did it.
Not only was I committed to help therapists scale their solo practice to a group practices but I wanted to particularly teach them how to have their clinic run without them by automating all of the processes so they could help more people, make more money and have more freedom.
In the last year my 6 month program, the Clinic Growth Map has exploded to almost 200 members all over North America, and almost 18K IG followers. There was a definite need in the market.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After scaling my private psychotherapy practice to 55 therapists and 7 figures in 3 years, during the pandemic, with toddler twins at home,I knew I had to teach others how to get similar results.
Being able to scale to a group practice is the only way to help more people. My favourite thing to teach therapists is to automate their practice so they have more freedom.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
I never in a million years thought I would sell my clinic, it was my baby. As my baby grew to 55 therapists it became a lot. The clinic was streamlined and running smoothly and growing rapidly but I missed helping people. I had chosen to solely step into the role of Clinic Owner, and was no longer doing therapy. I wasn’t fulfilled as an Owner, so when a Psychiatrist approached me to purchase my clinic (after many times saying no) I was more open to the idea. His company would be able to give my therapists things I would never be able to, like benefits, training incentives, retirement plans, etc.
When I realized that I could let go of this big business and my people would be in really good hands AND I would have way more freedom, I decided to let it go. Once I made that decision, I created space for something even better to show up in my life. I became a Business Coach to therapists and was able to help people in a way that I had really missed. I was fulfilled again. It was the best decision of my life and my family’s life has changed dramatically since choosing to sell. Not only am I off work every day by 3pm and with my twin boys but we travel the world in a way that wasn’t never possible before I sold.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In one year I was able to build an IG following of over 17K. The way I did that was being VERY specific about who I was talking to. For me it is Psychotherapists scaling to a group practice. Doing LOTS of videos, not just reels but giving them free valuable content in my stories (min 2 a day!) made all the difference.
Be real and unpolished, people relate to that.
