We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole McCaigue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Finding meaning in what I do and contributing to society, is a path that keeps me grounded and brings me joy. The biggest canvas I work on each day is creating the life that I desire, one that gives me purpose. It’s all about mind-set. I’m in the driver’s seat of what I think about myself and what I think is a meaningful way to spend my time. It’s important to place value on my talents and find a role to play in society.
Upcoming art show: Friday, April 4, 2025 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 6-9pm, during the downtown Phoenix 1st Friday art walk
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Nicole McCaigue, an artist navigating the delicate balance between passion and profit in my creative journey. My art reflects my inner purpose, prioritizing authenticity over commercial success. I explore various mediums and expressions, striving for mastery and continuous growth. Inspired by self-help resources and a positive mindset, I aim to make meaningful contributions to society through my artwork. My mission is to create from the heart, finding joy in self-expression and societal impact. Guided by a philosophy of embracing the present and staying true to myself, I seek to leave a legacy of creativity and purpose, inspiring others to pursue their passions with authenticity.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
An unwavering passion for self-expression propels me toward a lifelong pursuit of artistic proficiency. My goal is to keep learning and challenging myself. This internal drive and mission are a testament to the enduring power of creativity, love of life, and a reminder that true mastery is not merely the destination but the journey itself.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Among the resources that have profoundly influenced my approach to life and art is Mark Manson’s book, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life.” Through Manson’s unconventional wisdom, I learned the importance of prioritizing my mental well-being and embracing the present moment. This newfound perspective empowered me to take ownership of my time and focus on what truly matters to me.
