We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Marshall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Writing comes natural to me and has always been a means of expression. I started writing when I was a teenager and developed a love for poetry. I would write anytime I felt inspired or was in need to express my feelings in a creative and artistic way. Knowing what I do now, I believe if I attended writers’ workshops/webinars it definitely would have fueled my writing journey and sped up my learning process. We are now in a era where everything is on social media and thankfully I was able to do most of my research online. The most essential skill is being able to translate your thoughts into an organized story and I believe anyone who is creative and does the proper research can write something that most people can relate to. Everyone has a story. I wouldn’t say that I had obstacles standing in my way of learning but recognizing my talent should not go to waste later in my life allowed me to explore this journey now.

Nicole , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is for young children to have my books as a resource to impart positivity and provide them with the necessary tools to build their self-esteem and self-worth. My books inspire kids to be better and that’s all I can ask for.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being an author has it perks but with its perks you also can get distracted with the negative feedback or people who doubt your ability to provide good content. During the production of my 2nd book, I was very tempted to stop and quit making books. A lot of times you can be you worse enemy as well when you have moments of self doubt. I am glad I did not quit because when I see the beautiful smiles of the children holding my books or the videos of the kids reciting the positive affirmations it warms my heart and ultimately let’s me know I am doing the right thing being an author.
