We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Loor Piedra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole , appreciate you joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Reflecting on my career, I realize I’ve experienced pivotal moments that have shaped who I am today. At 19, while scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon a six-month internship offer. I applied on a whim, not realizing it would be the first step toward my personal and professional growth. It was there that I discovered part of my passion. I started out as an intern, but the responsibilities were much greater than I expected at that age. My role was to train new employees—something I had never done before and didn’t know I would enjoy.
During this experience, I developed skills I didn’t know I had. I took a leap of faith and maintained a positive mindset, even though I had no idea what I was getting into. I embraced it as a challenge. Soon, I became adept at organizing engaging training sessions that were anything but boring, and I realized I had a natural talent for motivating others—something I hadn’t been aware of.
After each training session, the positive feedback I received helped me recognize my ability to inspire people. Eventually, I grew confident enough to meet with managers and even the CEO. This confidence didn’t come overnight; it developed as I honed my communication and interpersonal skills. Little by little, I saw myself evolving, leaving behind the unsure 19-year-old I once was.
As time went on, I realized I could create and lead projects on my own. The biggest lesson I learned is that you should always be open to new experiences and maintain a positive attitude. By consistently pouring love into what you do, you’ll uncover your true purpose. Now, after having worked for five years at a company that provided me with invaluable knowledge, empowerment, and helped me discover my passion, I made the bold decision to move to a new country. I’m continuing to pursue my dream of reaching more people and helping them realize their own worth.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My purpose is for people to see the beauty of life. Despite the many problems and difficult days we face, we can always find our best selves. I’ve realized that many people struggle with organizing their time, and I help them do it in a light and meaningful way, providing a solid foundation so they can achieve their daily goals.
Those who want to improve every day are courageous; they understand the joy of growing each day, even when things aren’t going well. I feel that I have experienced things in life that many others also go through, and that my testimony can help them improve their lives. Happiness will always be found in giving your best every day.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Trying new things, connecting with people, and giving them the opportunity to share their experiences are essential steps. It’s important to stop associating with those who don’t contribute positively to your life and to avoid interpersonal relationships with people who drain your energy and peace. When you want to improve, you should surround yourself with those who pursue their dreams and are eager to grow, just like you.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to think I knew everything and didn’t want others to teach me. That wasn’t right, but now I’m not ashamed to say it, because when one feels like they own the truth, they unfortunately close the doors to learning. That happened to me; I was like that. I felt embarrassed for someone to see that I knew less, and I had to fall many times to understand that I needed to open up to people more knowledgeable than me. Humility is important for your growth, both personal and professional. I dismantled the phrase “I know everything” and allowed others to teach me as well. Only then will you grow.
