Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Kennerly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Once I decided I want to start my own business as a Nurse Practitioner I began taking courses like IV hydration to learn the basics on business structure. I wanted to ensure I was following the proper steps to avoid pitfalls in the future from achieving my goal. As someone who has been a entrepreneur in the past I know that without proper preparation failure can occur. The biggest challenge was getting out of my own head and not having imposter syndrome. I recommend researching and finding your niche. Also, networking and building solid relationships with other people in the field has been key to my growth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nicole Kennerly. I have been in the medical field for 15 years from a student nurse tech to now a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have had a passion for the medical field since I was a teen. I currently work as a Nurse practitioner and own Empressiv Glow Hydration & Wellness, a medical practice that provides IV Hydration, Medical Weight loss, Hormone replacement and Body contouring. I have become pretty successful in the weight loss field and consider that my niche at the moment. I think what sets me apart is my personality and how laid back and transparent I am. I also don’t believe in competition, but collaboration with my peers. I believe there is enough room for all of us to be successful. I am excited to continue helping people feel and look their best. I take pride in finding new ways to better serve my clients.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I am so proud of my accomplishments and I think becoming a Family Nurse practitioner was a great choice. Sometimes I have considered going for a Psychiatric certification as I have experience in that field and it will create more opportunities. But overall I am happy with my career choice and the opportunities it has afforded me.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Great customer service and word of mouth. I like to let my results and the experience of my clients speak for itself. I am thankful to have clients referred to me. I am working on ways to better market my practice as I want to expand from part time to full time in the next couple months.
