We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicole Heere. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicole below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Housewife Rebellion initially emerged as an art brand. Seeking something distinctive that would captivate the attention of gallery patrons and art enthusiasts, I opted for Housewife Rebellion over my own name. Not only does the name perfectly describe the art, the website and social media handles were available, prompting me to seize the opportunity to build the brand.
During preparations for the 2022 Saatchi Art Fair in Dallas, inspiration struck as I surveyed the array of artwork meticulously laid out. With my prominent Housewife Rebellion signage in place, along with flyers and informational materials, the idea dawned on me – why not extend this brand into the realm of wine? Seeking validation, I approached the fair organizers and proposed showcasing some artwork on wine bottles, not for sale, purely for display. The overwhelmingly positive feedback confirmed the potential for Housewife Rebellion as a wine brand.
Following the conclusion of the art fair, I shifted gears from art to wine, embarking on a journey fraught with challenges and opportunities. I remained steadfast in my vision for maintaining ownership and creative control, and explored opportunities that would allow for that. Navigating the complexities of federal and state regulations, I painstakingly obtained the necessary licenses to bring my vision to fruition.
From Lubbock to the Texas hill country, I forged partnerships and connections while diligently laying the groundwork for the company’s success. Negotiating the intricacies of federal and state laws, albeit a formidable task, ultimately yielded success. Collaborating with a select winery renowned for crafting fine limited-run wines for our exclusive wine club, I also secured arrangements with a commercial winery capable of rapid scalability when needed.
Two years of meticulous planning and dedication culminate in the highly anticipated launch of Housewife Rebellion Wine brand on April 20th, 2024. Our launch celebration will take place at City Works Restaurant at The Star in Frisco from 6pm-9pm, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for rebels and wine enthusiasts alike.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nicole Heere. I am an artist who paints about female topics, especially when related to outdated zeitgeist of women’s place within society. I am a mom and wife. I love art, wine, yoga and dogs.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Our wine and art is available direct-to-consumer via our website www.HousewifeRebellion.com. Wine sales will begin on April 20th 2024. Our goal is to build our wine club first and foremost. We plan on attending wine festivals to spread the word.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love listening to podcasts when I can. My favorite podcasts about business and art are are “How I Built This” and “The Great Creators” both by Guy Raz. It’s nice to know that nobody has a smooth road to success. These stories help me keep moving forward.
