We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Farran recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, appreciate you joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I got into the aesthetics market in 2008 while working in physical medicine and rehabilitation. At the time, I was utilizing neurotoxins, such as Botox, for neuromuscular conditions. Treatment of neuromuscular conditions required advanced understanding of muscle movement. Understanding of muscle movement and anatomy, as well as artistic creativity, are required for using neurotoxins for aesthetic procedures. For me, this was the perfect blend of science and art. I started training with some of the best injectors and further developed my aesthetic practice. Additionally, many of my physical medicine patients were deconditioned and/or obese, which contributed to chronic pain. I began a weight loss and wellness program to assist my patients and improve their pain and physical limitations. The pairing of aesthetics and wellness allows me to help my clients feel and look their best. After working many years in aesthetics and wellness, I opened Youthful You in January of 2020. The intimate setting allows me to develop a relationship with each and every patient. This relationship helps me understand the client’s goals and lifestyle so that I can help them enhance their natural beauty and feel their best. It is so rewarding for me to be able to instantly see in someone’s eyes and demeanor the improvement in self confidence. My goal is for each and every patient that walks into my office to feel special and leave happier than they came in.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nicole Farran and I am the owner of an aesthetics and wellness practice, Youthful You. I have my clinical doctorate and have been practicing since 2004. Youthful You provides a variety of aesthetic services, including neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeauveau, Daxxify), dermal fillers (Juvederm Family, Restylane Family, RHA Collection, Versa, Revanesse Lips, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Beletero), body contouring with PHYSIQ, skin tightening with Virtue Radiofrequency Microneedling and Ultherapy, CO2 laser/Cool Peel, laser hair removal with Motus, hair restoration, skincare, chemical peels, microneedling, platelet rich plasma and platelet rich fibrin injections, weight loss, and wellness. I help my patients with facial and body rejuvenation and prejuvenation. From an aesthetics perspective, my goal is to enhance their natural beauty. I want my patients to look like themselves, but rewinding the clock. Many of my patients also see me for wellness. I help my patients balance their hormones, improve gut health, and achieve a healthy body weight.
Each client has a unique story and we develop a unique treatment plan for them. I think Youthful You is different from other practices because I recognize the vulnerability a client feels when putting their trust in someone to help them with their physical appearance. I spend time getting to know my patients and educating them extensively on treatment options. I want each client to feel comfortable and know that I am available for them should any questions arise. We develop a relationship and together we create their treatment plan to achieve their short and long term goals. It is an honor to be a part of their journey.
I am proud of the practice I have created and feel blessed to be able to work with my clients. Every person is unique and I get to help them honor their unique beauty, inside and out. It is incredibly rewarding to watch the transformations that happen with my patients. It is so much more than the physical improvements achieved through face and body treatments. My treatments help patients look better, but more importantly feel more confident in themselves. In order to best help my clients, the relationship we develop is very important. I treat each and every patient like they are family. They know that they are not alone in this process.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Training and knowledge is critical, but remembering that the focus is on the patient is critical. Many healthcare providers in my industry perform aesthetic procedures, such as botox injections. They treat the patient with standard dosing at standard injection sites. While this may get the job done, the patient will not get their best results. My goal is to spend time getting to know the client, understanding their lifestyle, watching their facial movements, hearing their concerns, etc. This focus on the patient allows me to get my patients their desired results and help them feel special and understood. That connection is so important to achieve optimal results and the trust that develops paves the way for their future treatment plan.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am a mother of two young children in addition to a business owner. After my daughter was born I was struggling to balance work and family. I felt like I was not doing my best in either role. One morning while running (where I do my best thinking), I thought about what my perfect work scenario would look like. I love my job and have spent years training and developing my skills, but I also love being a mom and being with my children. I decided that my perfect work scenario would be one that allowed me to practice, but also allowed me to take off as needed for school recitals, holidays, etc. The best way I knew to achieve that balance was through creating my own practice. Three and a half years ago i opened Youthful You. While balance in life is an ongoing challenge, I have been able to continue my clinical practice and have more flexibility to be with my family.
