We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicole DeHoff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicole below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew your brand.
Being a photographer is both rewarding and difficult. The market is so saturated with other photographers and finding the right clients can be a challenge.
I’ve built my business on a luxury brand. I want to stand out from the others and provide my clients with something that they can walk away from saying “wow”.
When clients arrive for a session, they are taken back to hair and make up. Here they are pampered and loved on. Every mom deserves to be pampered. As a mom of 5, I know how important self care is, but how often we neglect ourselves.
Each client has access to my client closet. The closet is full of designer pieces that they can wear for their session. This helps take stress off the client. They don’t have to worry about purchasing outfits, styling, anything. We just discuss colors and preference and I do the rest of the work.
It took a long time to get to where I am. I’ve been doing this since 2010 and it’s been a lot of trial and error. A lot of money, time, stress, tears have gone into this.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Sure! I’m Nicole. I am a mother and luxury maternity, newborn and family photographer. I narrowed down my niche when I was pregnant with my oldest. I just love everything motherhood and knew that I would forever enjoy capturing other mothers journeys. I ventured into the luxury market, when I realized how important self care is & how stubborn us mothers can be. I always put others needs before my own, which means my self care will lack. So my goal for my clients is to pamper them. I want them to feel beautiful during and after their session. We do not allow negative talk in the studio, so from the time the client walks through the door, its all body positivity and hyping you up.
All of my clients have walked out that door thanking me, hugging me and telling me they’ve never felt more beautiful. It’s our job to lift others up and its an easy thing to do when you know what a rockstar they are.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’ve been doing it for so long. I teach maternity and newborn photography around the country. Having clients that rave about their experience to their friends goes along way too.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth for sure. I am from Ohio and had a huge following and clientele list there, which was mostly word of mouth. Since I’ve moved to ATL, I am relying on word of mouth and google. I am thankful for those that rave about me and send their friends my way.
