Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole D. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of starting a baking business did not come about until recently. At first, I would bake for family gatherings, office parties and for a friend’s birthday. Over time, people would request for baked goods around the holidays and I figured why not profit from it. I was hesitant because I felt like I needed more experience. I gave it a shot regardless. The thing is I learn from trial and error. Sometimes, it may be good. Sometimes, it may be poo like Gattuso said. I enjoy baking and trying different recipes. It makes me happy to know people find it delicious and give me positive feedback. As far as customers go, I usually promote through my coworkers and bring pastries to work. I, also post online as well.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into baking business because it brings out my creative side. I have made cakepops, mini cakes, mini pies, banana bread loaves, cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries and Oreos. I plan to get more into cake decorating. I am most proud of my cakepop decorating recently. What sets me apart from others is that I’m new to the baking field and still working on building more on my business and promoting. I am a full on newbie and this would be my first business.
I want my potential followers/clients to know that my products are made with love. I, also, have fun while creating their desserts. I follow other creative bakers to inspire me. There are many bakers out there but only one of me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on Instagram by word of mouth and simply interacting with other people who inspire me. I’ve met lovely people online and love supporting other small businesses. If anyone plans to build their social media presence, I suggest interacting with other people online and follow people who motivate you. It could even inspire more creativity. Also, support the small businesses, it could go along way and help that other person as well.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele was bringing my baked goods to work and parties. I promoted myself by putting myself out there and getting feedback from my peers.
