Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Cumberbatch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
After my son was born in 2017, I struggled with postpartum anxiety, and balancing life with a newborn. I needed a safe space to discuss honest, and real conversations about motherhood, and the challenges mother’s face; so, I created my podcast, Mamas Know Best, We Got Something to Say, in 2019. My mission is to educate and empower mothers throughout their motherhood journeys with informative, and inspiring conversations. My podcast is approaching 100 episodes, and was recently voted number 4, of the Top 50 Moms in Podcasting, by Podcast Magazine, which solidifies that I am living my purpose in sharing these conversations.
And in 2021, I created The Motherhood Village, where I offer webinars, workshops & other resources for the motherhood community; with the goal to one day create a Wellness Center for mothers. There is no manual to motherhood. It’s hard and at times overwhelming. But with the right support, or village, a mother can thrive and be the best that she can be for herself, and her family.

Nicole, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a podcast host, published author, and I serve on the Institute of Management Accountant’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Advisory Committee.
I have also held several executive level positions during my 20-years in Corporate, but in February of 2021 I walked away. There wasn’t one particular instance that pushed me out, but the pandemic made the decision much easier for me. When the pandemic first hit, I was told “I was choosing my family over the company” because I asked for flexibility after my son’s school closed, and I constantly felt pressured to not take time off even though I had paid time off available. I was tired of the corporate status quo, and feeling undervalued, so, I walked away from my VP of Finance & HR position to start my own boutique consulting firm. I now support business owners with developing efficient & effective accounting, administrative and human resources processes. I enjoy utilizing the experiences & knowledge I have gained, during my career, to help business owners not make the same costly mistakes I witnessed my previous employers make.
However, my true passion is supporting mothers. I really struggled as a new mom, and I couldn’t imagine where I would be had I not had the village and resources I had to help me. I learned so much from talking to other mothers, and I wanted to share those stories so that another mother could feel understood, supported and not alone in their thoughts or their worries. My podcast has grown exponentially the past 2 years and continues to grow! I hope to expand my podcast into radio and T.V. and talk about the issues we face as parents, the issues our children are facing, and how we can resolve those issues with honest communication, education, and learning from one another.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Therefore, I pivoted. I left the Company and went from a Vice President position to an Accounting Coordinator position for my alma mater. My salary decreased from six figures to five figures. It was an adjustment, but in hindsight, my family and I needed the change. Working in a lower-level position allowed me to have more time with my son, it alleviated the stress and anxiety, and I started my podcast. After working there for almost two years, I decided to go back into the private sector and worked for two more years in Corporate until I left in February of 2021.
Starting a new position, at a new company, when my son was just 8 months old was scary and exciting. But like other challenging times in my life, I pushed through, embraced the new opportunity and overcame the fears I had with faith and resiliency.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Working mothers, stay-at-home mothers, we are all doing the best we can to raise our children, and juggle all of the roles we play in our life. Asking for help when I need it, and outsourcing work in my home and business has allowed me to have more time for myself and for my family. And setting clear boundaries has been a game changer for my mental health. I’ve learned to recognize and pull away from negative people, work that is not fulfilling and areas that are causing too much stress. Therefore, opening the door for more positive things to come my way.
