Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Craig . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to help people. Help people emotionally, who may feel lost, Who may be fighting suicidal thoughts, who might just need a little extra push to get them through whatever they’re going through. Breathe and move through life more freely by sharing my yoga practice with them.
Soon after I got married I found myself searching for something. I wasn’t quite sure what it was, I just realized one day that I was starting to lose my identity. I had a husband, a nice home, a good paying job, but I still was searching. I thought back to when I was younger. What made me happy it was dance, I search for adult dance classes, and found myself in a yoga studio taking a buti class. Little did I know that this was going to be a very pivotal choice in my life. I started taking more classes, trying all different styles of yoga and falling in love. Not only did I enjoy the emotional release it gave me, the physical workout was great as well. I became at my favorite studio, after practicing for a few years, I decided to take yoga teacher training. Again, another pivotal moment the training program itself was life-changing for me, and I knew that I had to help others and share this beautiful practice that has blossomed my life.
After I completed my training, I was consistently teaching at three different yoga studios, along with taking any Yoga gig that was presented to me. I loved it… I was the traveling, Yogi , a true, gypsy soul. My life changed when I decided to file for a divorce. That landed me back in my hometown. a few months later, a space became open that was perfect for me to open a yoga studio in. I decided to take a risk, but knew I was making the right decision. I opened up practice peace yoga studio, June 10, 2023.
June 10, 2017, my brother surrendered his life to suicide. He is a very large part of my mission. I dedicate my yoga studio to him, extending myself to anyone who may be fighting the battle, I want people to know there are other options. There are people that care and that they can be their hero’s by having a strong yoga practice.
Nicole , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am 33 years old and recently divorced from a 13 year narcissistic relationship. I’m a hard-working and independent woman entrepreneur who also has a full-time career in management of construction sales and owns Practice Peace Yoga studio.
In my space, I offer Vinyasa flow yoga classes, along with healing sound baths, and other creative workshops. And everything I offer I am here to help people connect with their emotional and physical body truly introduced the breath and teach them how to relax and be present with themselves.
Yoga looks different every day for every person, it’s important that people know it’s OK to show up where they are and be present in the moment. Every class I teach, I teach to the people that are in that room with me, intuitively, flowing us through what we need, encouraging people to modify and adjust accordingly to their own needs. I often incorporate vibrational healing modalities into my Shavasana, along with motivational music with an inspirational message.
I am very proud of the studio that I’ve created along with the other instructors I’ve brought in. We’ve organically grown a beautiful space for people to grow, heal, strengthen, and evolve, their yoga practice inn. Practicing Peace ✌🏼
Have you ever had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my life was the day I realized my marriage was over, and I needed to walk away and give myself my own life. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, walking away from the man I spent 13 years, we created a beautiful life together, he was all I knew. There was so much beauty in it, but there was also so much pain. Unfortunately in our relationship we also were up against his addiction, which ultimately is what made me leave after I had a miscarriage. I went from having plans of being a stay at home mom, teaching yoga, and having the “perfect family“ …to a tragic nightmare. I had a miscarriage I completely lost myself, my husband turned to his addiction. I let myself get to my lowest point, and that was the day I realized I had to get out of this marriage.
I filed and paid for the entire divorce along with handling everything that needed to be done to separate 13 years of togetherness.
I worked very hard to create my own life, and figure out what I wanted. I had to detach and retrain myself to live for myself, for my own wants and my own needs. My own desires. Since my divorce has been final, I’ve purchased my own home And created that “white picket fence” life for me and my dog Obsidian . Best pivot I ever made.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
My first business was a cafe, Cole B’s. My best friend, and I decided to open a café along a bike trail that cut across our state. It was great, we had been working on opening this business from scratch for about nine months, right before we were ready to open Covid Grace presents to the world. We were nearly dead before we were even open.
We were scared, and inn completely uncharted waters, but there was no turning back. We took the risk decided to open. We were open for three years it was hard, it was fun, and it was successful. we had to change our original plans for operating, which was very challenging, adjusted our business plans
And powered through.
We took on catering jobs with afterschool programs and other catering jobs in the community, nothing we ever thought we would’ve gotten into, but very appreciative for our skills to adapt, and save ourselves from dying!
