We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Carroll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time, I would wish to have started my business sooner. Following the birth of my first daughter in 2017, my passion for helping exhausted mothers in obtaining proper rest grew. Having personally experienced the full extent of exhaustion, I developed a desire to help those facing similar struggles. in 2022, I finally attained certification and established Little Dreamers Sleep Coach. While simultaneously working in the healthcare industry on a part-time basis, I aspire to eventually transition to making my business a full-time profession.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey guys, I am Nicole, I currently live in SOuth Florida with my husband and 2 beautiful daughters. I am originally from Connecticut, I relocated to Florida after completing high school, the cold weather wasn’t for me! As a child, I remember always struggling with sleep issues, whether I got too much sleep or not enough. It wasn’t until I became a parent that I realized the true importance of sleep, especially for our children. With my first child I found myself feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. After many restless nights, I became obsessed with learning everything I could about pediatric sleep. I read books, blogs, and watched many videos to gain more knowledge. By about 5 months my daughter was sleeping consistently 12 hours a night and was on a great schedule.
I knew I had a passion for pediatric sleep consulting, so I decided to get certified and start my own pediatric sleep consulting business. I wanted to help other parents who were struggling with sleep issues and let them know that they are not alone. I knew how exhausting and frustrating it could be, and I wanted to make a difference in the lives of families.
Here at Little Dreamers Sleep Coach, I offer guidance and support in addressing a range of common sleep issues in infants and toddlers from 4 months – 5 years. These include but are not limited to, frequent nightly waking’s or feedings, managing the transition from bassinet to crib or bed, navigating co-sleeping or room sharing, developing independent sleep skills, identifying and reducing dependence on sleep crutches, managing early morning wake-ups, addressing short naps and managing nap transitions, and coping with sleep regressions.
I understand that every child is different, and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to sleep training. I work with each family to create an individualized sleep plan that considers each child’s age, developmental stage, sleep habits, and medical history. This customized approach ensures that the sleep plan is tailored to meet the specific needs of each child and family.
Little Dreamers Sleep Coach services go beyond just the initial consultation and personalized sleep plan. I offer two packages that include either 7 days or 14 days of ongoing support. This is to help families as they implement their sleep plan, providing guidance/answering questions, and troubleshooting as needed. With this ongoing support, it ensures that families can maintain healthy sleep habits over the long terms.
I am deeply passionate about helping families improve their children’s sleep habits and overall well-being. Seeing the positive impact that healthy sleep habits can have on a child’s development and the entire family dynamic is incredibly rewarding. I take great pride in providing families with customized sleep solutions that are grounded in evidence-based practices, and I am committed to staying up to date on the latest research in the field to ensure that my approach remains effective and relevant.
Starting my own business was challenging and scary, but it is also incredibly rewarding. I have helped families from all walks of life, helping them create customized sleep plans for their children. It is amazing to see the transformation in these families, as they go from being sleep-deprived and overwhelmed to well-rest and happy.
Owning my own business allows me to have the flexibility to provide personalized support to each family and to build long lasting relationships with my clients. I consider it a privilege to be able to help families achieve healthy, restful sleep and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Getting clients for Little Dreamers Sleep Coach is still a work in progress. I have based my clientele mainly on referrals and Facebook groups like Mom Groups or Baby Groups and daily posting on social media.
Once I complete time with a family, I ask them to refer me to their friends and family who may need help in sleep training and provide an incentive to those previous clients. I have built a website and used my social media platforms to take people to my website. I use Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to create posts on sleep training and all things sleep. This allows me to engage with my audience and potential clients. I also networked with pediatricians, daycares, and OBGYN offices. I gave them my business cards and brochures to refer clients to me.
In addition, I offer free consultations to potential clients, did Facebook and Instagram Live to do Q & A’s, and partnered with other sleep consultants, doulas, and midwifes. On my website I also write a blog post at least 1-3 times a month and advertise through my social media and through google.
These efforts led to a steady stream of clients and helped me grow my pediatric sleep consulting business.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
