We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Bauman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I still wake up everyday and am shocked I get to wake up and make money doing what I love. Being a creative. Whether it be creating a zombie or a fire engine red head of hair. I have hustled and dove into every creative aspect I love, I immerse myself in it and obsessed until I understand it. You really never stop learning and I love taking in new traits and skills.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up always being a very crafty creative and knew I wanted to do something in art. I originally was going to school for graphic design and also wanted to pursue fashion. I quickly switched and did a 360 and went to cosmetology school where I fell in love with hair and makeup, I specialize in dry cuts and have been cutting hair for 10 years now. That is my first love and passion. Alongside special effects makeup, watching shows like Face Off and now shows like Dragula that constantly inspire new monster makeups. I have worked for a haunted house in Fort Lauderdale called Nightmare Village for 2 years now and love having a haunted house family and getting to do makeup on the scare actors.
I own a small salon space in Plantation, FL and have been open now for 2 years. I love being able to have a full book of clientele who are safe and comfortable with me. I love doing any and all alternative cuts and vivid hair.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Pay your artists.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to hone in on my artistic abilities and constantly keep growing. Pushing boundaries and stepping out of my comfort zone.
