We were lucky to catch up with Nicolas Scheuer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicolas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
NS Dance Academy was born 2 years ago with a mission to bring the joy of dance for kids between 2-19 years old. Since our first day open we have triple our students and perform in 4 different productions, we hope to keep growing and cultivating our legacy of high quality dancers in the Nashville Metro Area.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in a small town in Brazil. At the age of 9 I took my first ballet class. Since then dance has been in my life everyday.
After graduating from Bolshoi Brazil, 8 years of intense ballet education, I decided to take a big leap and move to United States to go to a trainee program at Boston Ballet. During my first year I received couple of professional company contracts but decided to stay for one more year of training, which good training from professionals dancers is the most important part of a dancer career.
12 years ago I was asked to join Nashville Ballet, which I have been leading the company with major production and I hope to keep dancing professionally for 1o more years .
2 years ago on top of my busy dance schedule with performing with Nashville Ballet in 8 productions years over 30 shows, I decided to make one more dream come true. Opening my own business and start my own dance productions.
NS Dance Academy has been open for business for 2 years. We’re having our final rehearsals to bring Alice in Wonderland with 44 dancers into 2 main stage shows.
NSDA is a different dance studio from any other one in the area. We only have professional dancers teaching dance to our kids. We’re set to bring 3 productions in 2023/2024 season.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our current students. Our quality of training has been bringing us more friends and exposure. We love our dance family, we spend time with each every week, we encourage our students and friends to let their friends, family, neighbors to know about us.
We’re always looking to add a family member to our studio.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Open door policy. We work with each other! We’re an ensemble dance studio, everyone in the organization matters.
I always remember the way I felt when I was being ignored and my opinion did not matter. At NSDA, I’m trying everyday to get better and have a great place for our students, parents, clients and friends to have a place they feel welcome and secure to explore their own imagination and talent.
