Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicolas Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicolas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I would say within the last few years. I always enjoyed making music but it took me a while to finally flip the switch and pursue it fully. After interning and working at a studio, I was able to meet and building friendships and relationships with people within the music industry, I was able to show them my music and get feedback from Grammy award winning, Grammy nominated and Multi- Platinum Engineers and producers. Being able to hear from them and saying “yo, you got something” really pushed me to keep going.
Nicolas, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yes, so my name is Nicolas Garcia. To the homies I’m known as Nick or Nico or by my artist name 404.nico. I’m an Artist, Producer, Recording & Mixing Engineer and Live Sound Engineer from Atlanta, GA. I grew up in a small town about 45 minutes north of Atlanta in Canton, GA. I began making music my senior year of high school around 2016-2017. At first it started off as just a hobby and something the homies and I would do for fun. Gradually for me it was something more. I always enjoyed music but always wanted to know how these songs were able to sound the way they did. Thats when I decided to search up audio engineering schools. I was able to find one and enrolled the following year and started my journey at SAE Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. There I was able to revive my Associates Degree of Applied Science in Audio Engineering. Although I did appreciate everything I learned from SAE, COVID had hit and made it really hard to transition to online schooling because you pay for that hands on experience. Still I was able to complete my schooling and received my degree in December of 2020. With COVID still going on into the next year it was really hard to find any type of audio related job or internship. Luckily after months and months of trying to find something I received a call about an internship opportunity at one of the most prestigious studios in Atlanta. I jumped on it the first chance I got and that’s kind of where everything started for me. It’s been a grind just but don’t think I would see myself doing anything else. As for what to expect, more music, more content and more of everything.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! So my family and I are very family oriented. They are my number one supporters and the driving force behind my journey. Without them I don’t know if I would have continued this journey. Everything I do is for them. My parents came to this country and provided my sister’s and I with the best they could and for that I am forever grateful and thankful and indebted with them. For my sister’s they’ve always pushed me to do better. That’s why everything that I envision for myself is not attainable with them being in my corner.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
SUPPORT YOUR FRIENDS!!! It doesn’t take much besides a like, share, comment, follow or a simple message. People are quick to support their favorite artist, actor or whatever. Keep that same energy with the talented people around you.
