We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicolas Désilus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicolas below.
Nicolas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I do what I do a little bit to prove a point. If am being 1000% with you. I wanna show to the young queer bipoc community that your voice matter & representation is a non-negotiable. I also wanted my family to see that school was not the only way to life. If you’re good at something you should explore that and try your best.
I did everything from commercial shoot to editorial, fitness, fashion, art, runway and the list goes on. Out of all of the experiences I can guarantee you that I want to explore the art world a little more in the near future. Using colours, clothing, makeup, different light settings, my pose and more to tell a story is for me the best way I could express myself in a meaningful way

Nicolas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well growing I was surrounded by art because my dad also work in that field. I followed my dad everywhere from the Just for laugh back stages to dance studios to music booths & more. For me being an artist was the coolest thing ever no matter the discipline. My visual eye starting very young with drawing & painting. Then in my teenage years I became obsessed with the supermodels of the 90s, pop culture and black artists like MJ, Naomi Campbell, Beyonce, etc (my first black role models) Believe it or not, at the time, I was very camera shy and I gain more confidence listening to beyonce’s music. It really made me put myself in a “what would beyonce do?” state of mind lol. Over the years I mostly grew my skills as a model and got a few acting opportunities. I also took every chance I had to also develop styling & art direction skills. Since 2019 I started to do more creative collabs to practice my director eye and for the future I think of putting a lot more time and energy in art for maybe my first full expo as a creative director. Lot of my previous work is about topics like queerness in the black community, gender fluidity & representation.
I think my proudest moment was when I my haitian grandmother told me that she saw me on tv and was proud of my message and let me tell you the lady was not a fan of the career path. I’d made my heart melt.
Ultimately, my goal is to make art that will make people crave for more diversity, more black queer stories & maybe inspire some

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would love to contribute in a more impactful way to push diversity to the front of Quebec’s artistic & media scene

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing the end result. The fruit of a team full of different talents
