We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicolas Cambi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicolas below.
Alright, Nicolas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Making the leap to hobby to Professional Status
I originally won my procard in 2015 when I went to Wilkes-Barre PA and beat 27 other guys for the chance to win the professional status. However, I didn’t really feel I made the full commitment to be a professional strongman until 2020 after the pandemic. Once the sport was taken away from me, is when I really bought in to come the strongest version of myself. Making the leap would potentially strain my progression in corporate America but would allow more time to compete in more competitions domestically and internationally. In addition, allow me to improve every aspect of my strongman game, technique, diet, conditioning etc.
In 2021 I won World Strongest Man 105kg as well as two other major shows and broke 3 WRs. 2021 was my breakout year in the sport and a defining moment in my girt and perseverance to become one of the best the sport has ever seen.

Nicolas , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
At World Strongest Man this past year, I entered the contest with a torn right bicep distal tendon that occurred at my previous show only a few weeks before. I found out 2 days before my flight left for Myrtle beach (host city for the competition) that I had a 1.5 cm detachment according to my MRI result. I was feeling decent heading into WSM and training was complete. If it were any other show I would of probably pulled out but World Strongest Man is the biggest show in the sport of Strongman and this was my first invite ever to the big stage and really wanted to make a name for myself.
I competed pretty well through the first two events, but re-injured my right bicep on the third event. The promoters suggested that I should step away from the remainder of the competition, but I told them I would see how the bicep would hold up over night. I ended up returning to the competition completing the final two events and preforming quite well for myself with some pain during the day.
I ended up not qualifying for the final, but proud of my perseverance to finish the competition and look forward to returning to the big stage in 2025.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Just started sharing my journey from amateur strongman to professional status over 12 years. Big lifts, competition footage, and detailed stories of competitions through my talks on YouTube. My biggest advice would be to be authentic to your values as a person. Make content that you also thoroughly enjoy as well and don’t be scared to try new things. If you feel you have a lot of good information to share, Podcasting can be a valuable tool to interview and network with others in your niche and learn new things to enhance your own processes. Also, good audio production and editing can go a long way.
