Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nick Snow. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue music was the first time I was born. I can not remember a time when I was not a musician. I remember being a child and experiencing really big emotions, and not truly knowing what to do with them. Now that was also exactly the time when my mother told me to take my feelings and turn them into song. I was only a child and had yet to truly feel all that life had to offer me, but I wrote and wrote as I grew and grew. Music became my vessel for telling my story then, and still is to this day. The logistics and professional instinct came upon me later, but music and its story sit at the core of all that I do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been a musician for as long as I’ve lived, but I just recently released my first and second singles on all streaming platforms now! I’m a rock artist originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but I am currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. I call my music Rock & Soul revival, as it is a blend of pop, gospel, and classic R&B, all the grit, power, and pleasure of pure rock music. My first single, “Burn This House,” is about having a flirtatious relationship, crazy enough to make you feel that you could do something drastic. My second release is titled “Hollywood Driving”. It is about a back-and-forth romance in the Hollywood Hills that might not be everything that it seems. I make music for the dreamers, escapists, storytellers, and anyone who wants to really feel something, authentically and genuinely.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that perfection is the end goal. This year has taught me that authenticity is the most valuable thing one can own. Authenticity includes sharing one’s growing pains and the joy of progress, sometimes being imperfect and messy. My authenticity makes Nick Snow so unique. Nick Snow is not afraid to show you his true colors and bathe in the light of his successes and mistakes. He tells his story plainly and true to who he is and always has been, unafraid of the shadow of his past.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Yes! Being a black person in rock music takes resiliency each day. Networking with other musicians brings the challenge of having to defend my love for the genre and the gift that it offers all music lovers worldwide. I have been doubted, rejected, and questioned a countless number of times. Yet, the thing is this: you can never let someone question your ownership of something you created. It is yours, and it always will be.
