We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nick “Nez” Nesbitt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nick “Nez”, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
From the time I was a little kid to now I have been involved in training of some sort. I have been to some of the “top” schools in the industry and trained with some of the “best” instructors out there and I rarely left thinking “dang, I can’t wait to take more training from them” or “wow, I would come back and take that class again” yet those are some regular things told to me after a training session or class. Go to my Google Business page, my website, or my facebook and look at the reviews. I am not inflating my ego but the community doesn’t lie! I don’t train others for the profit like a lot of “puppy mill” ranges or training companies where they want to charge high prices, shoot loads of ammo, and teach some basic stuff that isn’t super applicable to truly being able to defend yourself. There are a lot of good instructors out there, but the ones who have real world experience and are teaching to serve others as a way to help them become more capable are the best. I use my real world experience and give options over opinions that work and solve problems. I don’t teach the way, I teach a way. My mission statement is to train the everyday citizen to win the fight for their life, to train every officer to become more capable in their daily duties to protect and serve, and to reteach society to protect and preserve human life!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I go by “Nez” I spent some time in the USMC, my primary job was a machine gunner. I got a chance to do some awesome training and go to some amazing places. I spent some time in Afghanistan conducting direct action raids and security ops. I held multiple combat roles and helped conduct training for Marines before they would go to combat. I was combat marksmanship instructor, primary marksmanship instructor and rifleman as well. It was an amazing experience that led me to my fathers security company. They specialized in executive protection work, red team operations, security audits and active shooter training. I was able to travel the world some more and do some more pretty cool things. I have moved on to open my own businesses since then.
The Ozark School of Gunfighting is my range, it’s a 60 acre training facility that has multiple ranges. We have a 50yx80y flat range, a vehicle range (learn to shoot in and around vehicles and what bullets do to different parts of cars) we have two long ranges as well. 0-700y and 0-1500+y. We do a ton of training out here, we offer full day classes, medical training, open range time, group and corporate shoots, we sell body armor, defense ammo and tactical gear. We also offer services outside of our range, those are church, business, and school security audits and active shooter/anti-violence training. We offer training to security teams for schools, churches, and businesses as well. We offer Law Enforcement Agency training and home defense training. Our goal is to increase your capabilities as your own first responder. You must be an active participant in your own self rescue.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Being a student is key to success in any industry, you can never learn to much. You must be able to decipher the good from the bad when it comes to gathering info and implementation of that into your business. I feel like reading and listening to podcasts are some of the best ways to get info, but it can’t just be going through the motions. It needs to be active reading or listening, taking notes, reading chapters and pages 3,4,5 times to really get the info.
Books that have been game changers for but just business but life as well.

– becoming super natural
– the dichotomy of leadership

– power of positive action
– third circle theory
Podcasts that have helped me continue to get better at every aspect of life

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My resume, real world experience, they way I teach and how I make people feel when they are on the range. I want to make sure you leave the range more confident in your capabilities and feeing like you faith in your training. I work with all levels shooters from first timers to high level LEO and PMC/MIL groups and I have been able to achieve instant results in their deficiencies. That’s the whole point of training right, to get better? So that’s what I do, every time, with ease and little stress.
