We recently connected with Nick Lokken and have shared our conversation below.
Nick, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am so stoked to be an artist and creative! I felt like I was dying on the inside (and outside) when I was not practicing these passions. Sometimes I do think what it would be like to have a “regular” job but it sickens me. Routine sickens me. I love the freedom of not knowing what the week or day holds. It’s scary sometimes but I use those feelings to motivate me to work harder and faster!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
So yeah, my name is Nick Lokken. I’ve been a Singer/Songwriter and Construction worker my entire life. Some family members played the guitar when I was little, which inspired me to, and I fell in love with the instrument. My family also owned a construction business so that’s where I was after school and on weekends. So here I am 30 years later still doing these two things. Having two businesses that are polar opposites from each other somehow brings me balance. When I feel burned out on one, I switch to the other.
Problems I solve for my clients is always figuring out the end goal and product. It might not be today or tomorrow but we always get though and make it happen AND have fun doing it. So many people take things too serious. Yes we have to be professional doing things but why not have a smile every now and then?
I’m most proud of sticking with it. I could have given up on music after my first record deal when my album didn’t go viral. But it pushed me to make better music. And we are! I could have quit construction many times but why not use what I know so much about to create a great life for my family?
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
My view on NFT’s are they are super hot right now, maybe a fad, could hold value in the future. Definitely a way for visual artists to cash in right now!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Best way to support artists is encouragement and compliments. That’s why I do it.
