We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nick I AM a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Currently, I am working on my new album titled, “Becoming The Goddess.” What does “Becoming The Goddess” mean to Nick, I AM? “Becoming The Goddess” refers to the journey it takes to become one’s most authentic self and embracing all parts of one’s self. Also, “Becoming The Goddess” means getting to know oneself spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. The first step to becoming a goddess is to gain a consistent and committed relationship with God, our Creator. Secondly, “Becoming The Goddess” is about healing past traumas and seeking assistance to become emotionally intelligent. Lastly, “Becoming The Goddess” includes eating healthy, practicing self-care daily, and adding a consistent workout routine in one’s life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Firstly, I am a child of the Most High God and my name is Nick, I AM. Secondly, I am a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor. Creatively, I am singer, rapper, songwriter, storyteller, visionary, and an entrepreneur. Currently, my most viral song is titled, “Nick, I AM – Ride It,” and if you have not heard of it, please check it out now on all platforms. Also, I grew up in Los Angeles, California, and graduated with a Bachelors in Sociology with a minor in Psychology in May 2019. I began singing in my church choir at seven and wrote my first rap verse at 14 years old. However, I did not start recording music until I moved to Norfolk, Virginia, in November 2019. Currently, I sell digital products in the form of music. God has blessed me to be able to tell stories through music and I have had to heal through my music. My purpose is to lead people to Christ and show them steps to heal their own trauma as well as how to become free through forgiveness. I am overjoyed with seeing so many people connect with my music in the way that they have and to see so many people creating TikTok videos while loving on themselves to my music. Seeing people love themselves to my music has been the best blessing God has allowed me to see thus far and I am beyond grateful for the support I have received globally.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
People who have tunnel vision about life, sexuality, gender, race, age, and all other protected classes may have a challenge with seeing those who live free. As a creative, I am here to tell the stories that God has given me and to paint the picture as he has given to me. The vision that God has given me or you, may never be understood by others. However, it is our responsibility to be obedient to God’s instructions and to do as he guides us to do. During the creative process, it is essential that we are guided by our intuition and surround ourselves with people who are understanding. Everyone may not completely understand what each creative does but we can see the beauty in creativity. Lastly, everyone will not be “your audience.” As a creative, it is imperative that we learn who our “Target Audience” is and market to those who are engaged with our products as well as creativity. In other words, find your tribe and rock with them as you expand your reach.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is simple. I am on this earth to fulfill the mission God has for me and I will be of service to wherever God directs me.
