We caught up with the brilliant and insightful NICK HAMILTON a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
NICK, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
When I no longer worked for a major network, I decided that it was time to work on my own business and create a platform that spoke to the needs and perspectives of my community and other communities of color. I honestly didn’t know how I was going to build this company, or what it truly took to make this company come alive. There were times where I felt like I may never get this off the ground, versus times where I experienced breakthroughs due to the previous networking I did with certain sports teams, publicists in the entertainment industry, etc.
I named my company based upon some of the experiences I’ve had in the media. They’re not many Black owned media companies that are allowed the opportunity to cover various mainstream events. Oftentimes I would be the only or either one of two Black journalists in the press conference and felt like we had no strong representation. Oftentimes we are treated as outcasts in the media space, and simply ignored or not recognized if you are not a major outlet. A fight that continues to this day. Quite frankly, not seeing enough journalist of color, and Black owned media outlets that are more than qualified to being in these spaces, I got tired of that shit!
Nitecast Media came about to open doors and allow opportunities to those who have the desire, will, and dedication to report on stories that mainstream media may not have the time or space to report that are important. Our voices from our perspectives. I named it Nitecast, because night means dark representing our hue or color, and “cast” for the reason I mentioned earlier. We have been fortunate yet earned the right to be in various spaces such as The Oscars, ESPYs, BET Awards, film premieres, Super Bowls, NBA All-Star Games, various sporting events, etc. I wanted to build a solid media company that emphasized on Black communities and other communities of color in the world of sports, entertainment, tech, with being able to tell a story behind the story. I wanted to inspire some that you can do it on your own, through the grace of God, hard work and dedication. We are Media!

NICK, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have always had a passion for creating and writing. While working on the school newspaper in high school in my 11th grade year, my editor/teacher Mr. Larry Strauss gave me the confidence that I could make it as a writer and reporter if I applied myself and stayed dedicated to the craft. It would many years later before I would answer the call of being in media, and carving my own lane in the industry.
Over the past 15 years in media, I’ve outworked my competition enough to have some of my work featured on SIRIUSXM, SB Nation, NBC, AXS.com, AP, iHeartMedia, BBC News, KCBS (Los Angeles) and Forbes. With an AA Degree in Journalism and Communications from El Camino College, I made a name for myself as a reporter and content creator.
Along with being in the field conducting interviews, filing stories and exclusive video content, I worked to create my own media empire to expand coverage of stories mainstream news platforms refused to cover.
Nitecast Media is dedicated to ensuring giving a voice to the voiceless and bring light to the unseen in the world of sports, entertainment, community, tech, etc., from Black and communities of color. Also providing woman of color a lane to have a powerful voice in the media. Creating content and giving opportunity to those who need an opportunity with something powerful to say and address a need. We have also expanded to producing radio and podcasting programming for SIRIUSXM, and have forged relationship to working with and covering several Fortune 500 companies that include, Disney, A24, Amazon, AppleTV, to name a few. A connection to ensure that when given the opportunity, we assist with helping to grow their brands and shed light on stories to an audience that matters and goes well beyond the moneyline.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was told once that I wouldn’t make it on television or radio by a prominent media figure. Nitecast Media allowed me to beat those odds when it came to exposure on television and radio not just for myself but our other reporters that are a part of the platform. I invested in myself where I learned the radio business and on-air work by paying a internet based station monthly to air my show. I’d listen to various radio personalities as I continued to learn the industry. The same with watching certain television personalities, and it took me eight years into my career before I made my first major network radio and television appearances. I never quit although there were times I wanted too, something inside of me kept me going toward the finish line. I’m glad I followed my instincts.
We also produced a digital television show that showcased women basketball players and the WNBA. In order to help a league that has a strong desire to grow, showcasing these ladies in more than just how they perform on the court.
We also launching a film and television development division that will allow scriptwriter, filmmakers, directors to have an opportunity to have their stories told to various audiences. Through film, television, streaming, and documentaries. Having the ability to tell our stories the best way that will be the most profitable. Looking forward to creating more shows for audio and video media spaces coming soon.
I am most proud of the growth we have with various audiences to our content, the team that has been assembled and continues to be assembled in order to be one of the strongest media companies that have communities of color in the forefront of our minds. We are a full service multi-media company that releases quality material. and continue to carve our own lane in the media spaces that matter!
We are powered by passion, driven by purpose and determined to ignite a movement of new media that caters to the audiences as well as the athlete, entertainer, etc. that edutains (educates and entertains), inspires and most important delivers a entertaining impact upon society.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
While I was figuring out what I wanted to do with my life like most people were doing, I got discovered by a modeling talent agent and started modeling in the fashion industry. I eventually signed a deal with L.A. Models for a few years, once my contract was up, the opportunities dried up. While figuring out what my next move needed to be, my cousin reminded me and bodly told me that I need to stop playing get into that media career you’ve wanted for a while. So returning back to college, I gained an internship at ESPNLA, started blogging, and worked part-time just to begin the journey into the media field. And 15 years later I still standing, looking to acquire funding for my companies as I continue to expand with my team.
