We were lucky to catch up with Nick Gould recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
Avenue One Productions has what we like to call the ‘Local Artist Fund’. It’s where we provide smaller bands/musicians with industry standard visuals for little or no pay. We generally film concerts, music videos and social media content for artists. These visuals help the band put money towards what matters in their world, such as studio time, musical instruments, etc.
I started in the music video world. I noticed bands generally have one theme in common: they’re broke artists. I used to be a broke artist myself. These musicians put a ton of work into their music and it only feels right that I get the opportunity to help them when they’re in need.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Avenue One Productions is a video production company based in Boston, MA. We produce corporate video and social media content for businesses and brands. We find ourselves mostly helping promote brands and products through marketing campaigns and stunning visuals.
We strive to make the process of producing your video easy because, let’s be honest… not everyone understands the creative process of video production. And that’s ok. We take care of the heavy lifting and we work work to provide you the best experience possible.
Our main goal is to help these companies and brands make more money. We want your product to succeed just a much as you do!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Early on, I used to think I was charging my clients too much. It held me back for a long time. Once I started getting consistent work, I was super busy, but not bringing in the income to match the amount of time I was putting into the business.
Then I raised my rates by almost double. Then a few years later, I did it again. I’ve found that clients actually respect you more when you charge more. They hold you to a higher standard, but also think of you as a premium brand and will refer you to other businesses as a premium brand.
If you keep your prices low, you will get referred to other businesses as the ‘low cost solution’. You don’t want that. You want to be a valuable asset to your clients. Raising your rates, along with upholding a certain quality standard will make you a valuable asset.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I wanted Avenue One to work with a particular agency. The work was a bit out of our wheelhouse skill wise and we didn’t have anything in our portfolio that matched what this agency was doing. Instead of emailing the brand and asking them to work with us, I sent them a video of myself on camera asking to work with them. The video we sent matched in their style of work and it highlighted some of the reasons why we think we would be a good fit.
It’s safe to say, that client has not only hired Avenue One for over $20k in work, but they’ve sent me around $30k in other jobs this last year alone.
