We were lucky to catch up with Nick Delphin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nick, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
at first i never knew anything about music , but i knew that i wanted to be a big artist . Then when i got 13 years old I start recording myself on my computer with just an headphone , the first song that i record was “” t’es mon oppose” in French it means that your my opposite , then i share it with my friends at school. Unfortunately there was a lot of mockeries, they were lauging so hard that i got mad ,and almost cried , then almost everyday i was writing new song share it with more friends , i gwas getting better because everytime they joke about it , they tell me what is wrong. then i perfect it , until i got better .Now iam an official artist , i learned a lot during those years , for example how to record myself perfectly , how to also promote mysong by using spotify playlist ,or even how to write my songs perfectly. So i don’t regret anything.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Nick Delphin , i started my career in 2018 , i got in the industry because of my love for music . Since the age of 5 or 6 , i was trying to compose my own melody , singing random words . my principle genera is afropop ,but i also make haitian zouk , afrobeat , and urban french music. my songs are available on all the platforms as spotify , audiomack ; youtube, iheartradio . the first song that i made that went viral was ” fete la feat Baid x MGCK ” oneof my beat featuring with 21k streams for now . and my zouk song that went viral in haiti was “Konsa’ a very sensual song, really soon i will release a song like this name ” C’est bon feat ” DEESSE_GODESSE” she had a really good voice , and i am planning to have more songs with her. and my missio ,or my goal is to be the best haitian artist in the whole world , i know the most known haitian artist is ‘ wyclef jean’ but i feel that i can do more then that , because imagine if my music in creole and frenchare number 1 in the world . that would open more doors for the haitian music industry also known as ”HMI ” and i would change a lot of things in it , as they say if you don’t have money in the ”HMI’ they won’t recognise you , and won’t expose you , but with my music , and my goals i will change that.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
the most rewarding aspect for me for being an artist is to pleasure my fans, i have so much satisfaction when a fan come to me , and tells me ” wow i really like your song” i feel so glad and satisfy , even if it is only one person , i feel that all the night i spend writing and recording had a big value for someone else .
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal as stated before is to change the haitian industry ” HMI and bring it in front of the world, so it can be recognize.
