We recently connected with Nichole Nicolet and have shared our conversation below.
Nichole, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
One recurring instance of being misunderstood or mischaracterized in my artistic journey often unfolds during markets. Many times, people mistakenly perceive my art as mere printing on pages, not realizing the intricate hand-drawn and painted nature of each piece. When I have the opportunity to correct this misconception, it’s truly remarkable to witness the shift in their understanding. The amazement that follows, as they realize the meticulous craftsmanship and artistry involved in every creation, adds an extra layer of gratification to my artistic experience. It’s a reminder of the unique connection that forms between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer, and the joy that comes from breaking down misconceptions to reveal the true essence of my craft.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, I’m Nichole Nicolet, an artist based in Austin, Texas, celebrated for my distinctive approach to creating art on book pages. My artistic journey traces back to Iowa, where my formative years in art rooms and at barns with horses, coupled with a profound love for reading, kindled the flames of my artistic passion.
Having earned a degree in performing arts and a minor in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, my journey took an unexpected turn amid the pandemic. Unable to pursue acting due to widespread closures, I rediscovered my artistic passions while stuck indoors. This led me to specialize in drawing and painting on book pages, infusing new life into these timeworn canvases.
My varied skill set, honed through a degree in performing arts and photography, uniquely sets me apart in the art world. These skills play a pivotal role in creating visually appealing content that enhances the storytelling aspect of my pieces. The fusion of my background in performing arts and my love for literature enriches the narrative quality of my artworks, providing a distinctive and engaging experience for viewers.
In addition to my primary mediums of charcoal, graphite, ink, watercolor, and acrylic, my artistic repertoire is further enriched by the versatility that my degree brings. This blend of traditional techniques and a contemporary aesthetic allows me to create visually stunning and emotionally resonant pieces.
Above all, I want my followers to know that their support brings me immense joy. The enthusiasm they share for my work fuels my passion, and I’m grateful for the community that has formed around the appreciation of art, creativity, and the magic of transforming book pages into cherished artworks. Thank you for being a part of this journey!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative extends beyond the act of creating itself, although that holds a special place in my heart. What truly brings me immense joy is the opportunity to share my work. Whether it’s through social media platforms, where I can connect with a diverse and appreciative audience, or at markets and in galleries, the act of sharing adds an extra layer of fulfillment to my creative journey. Engaging in conversations with people, sharing the stories behind each piece, and discussing my artistic process not only deepens the connection with my audience but also allows me to witness firsthand the impact and resonance my art has on others. It’s in these moments of interaction and shared appreciation that the true magic of being a creative comes to life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media has been a transformative journey that truly took off when I embraced my authenticity and honed my unique niche and style. Discovering who I am as an artist was a pivotal moment; it not only added depth to my work but also resonated with a more engaged and appreciative audience.
Consistency has played a vital role in growing my social media presence. I found that posting quality content consistently allows social media algorithms to better understand and share my work with the right audience. It’s like fine-tuning a channel to reach those who genuinely connect with my artistic vision.
One piece of advice I swear by is the power of research. By studying artists whose social media presence I admire, I gained valuable insights into effective strategies. Whether it’s observing how they structure their profiles or finding artists with similar styles, taking notes and gradually incorporating those elements into my own profile has been instrumental. Importantly, I advocate for a gradual approach – it’s about taking one step at a time. Rushing to implement changes all at once can be overwhelming and lead to burnout.
Building a social media presence involves doing all the right things, but it also comes with a sprinkle of luck. For me, a significant turning point happened when I started sharing content related to my Pride and Prejudice-inspired art piece. It was like hitting the jackpot. A month ago, I was hovering around 5,000 followers for over a year. Now, I find myself with 32K followers. It’s been an exhilarating experience, but it also means you have to move, adapt, and keep up with the momentum. I’m still learning, navigating through the dynamics of a growing audience. Sometimes, it’s about keeping your head above the water and staying committed to the process of creating. The key is to stay true to yourself, keep evolving, and enjoy the journey, embracing the twists and turns that make the artistic adventure so uniquely rewarding.
