Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicholas Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicholas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I wanted to pursue art the moment I saw Pokemon and digimon. Corny I know but, it was life changing for some reason the story’s really made me want to draw and create my own world. It was the first episode of Pokemon Pikachu jumping to save ash and ho-ho at the end. That felt so powerful. I drew for hours and hours after seeing that and it downed on me that someone came up with that idea. I was off to the races
Nicholas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into comics after my buddy Daniel showed me a black panther comic. Seeing someone master art in that way blew my mind. I decided to follow that path and learn to be the best at that I could be. When It comes to comics I really pride myself on knowing story. Something I think is kinda a lost art. I personally think ik dam good at editing stories and helping them be the best they can be. I pride myself on knowing what the theme is and approach it similar to Pixar. Solving story problems is fun challenge I love to take on.
Finding Nemo is a flawless movie. I only hope to reach those heights. In terms of comics I love, love naoki urasawa. He to me is the goat of making manga / comics.
I’m enthralled by manga. Love American and European comics as well. Studying how things are different between each is so fascinating. If you want to build something everlasting I’m your guy.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Look around your home and ask what you want. I think everyone should own real art. Something that speaks to you. Shows a bit of your family’s personality. We can all take pictures but not everyone is a good photographer. I really would love to come into people’s homes and find real art from all over.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I really wish I knew how to network better on Instagram and understood that the algorithm is working against you but, that doesn’t mean you need to give up. In the digital age where everything is changing. I’d love for someone to develop a platform that lets me hold the rights to my art and passes on to me the business owner the people that want to use it.
