We recently connected with Nicholas Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Oh I’m very happy as a creative. I literally get off of work and get right back to drawing or designing. I do wonder what I could have done differently in life. Example: What if I stayed in the USMC and made a job switch to something I wanted such as Motor T or infantry. I recently got a call offer from the Army to rejoin (their age cut off is a lot older than the USMC so I was tempted).
There are times when I’m working when I say to myself, Hey! maybe you should study IT or pick up a trade. Just in case this Design thing goes south. Usually when a company downgrades Marketing/Design employees are the first to be let go
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Sure! I went to Northlake CC around 2015 to pursue my Associates in Graphic design. 2017 I started going to UTA to pursue my BA in graphic design/drawing and graduated in 2020. That’s the education side. During those crazy years I was always going to or participating in art shows around Dallas and Ft Worth. Shout out to my brother Macho…he is the one that put me on to them.
I am mainly a illustrator, but I do design and sometimes murals. What sets me apart from others is of course my style and approach to art. Its not crazy but I just bring this overseas and out of state influence. I spent 2 years in Japan and a year in CA so I subconsciously have those styles in my system. I’m most proud of my supporters actually. People that actually come to my shows, commission me on projects and share my work. It makes it all worth it in the end. I will continue to bring quality till I’m 6ft under
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
OHHH YEA. Study who you love and what they do. Example my art got a lot better along with my ideas, after watching Kim jung Gi, Karl Kopinski and Miss Jisu illustrate. I started purchasing their books and studying their ways. Really most artists from Superani. Those guys are my hero’s! Look them up and buy some of their books if possible. They way they illustrate is BEYOND.
As for philosophy, Check out the Meditations by Marcus Aurelius…I will give you a fresh outlook on life!
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
MONEY WASHING SCAM hahaha.
